Miss Wo Wo Makes A Stand in Everyday Ramblings

It is cold here. There is a heated cat bed wrapped up in that towel. Carlo has made a tent under it. Unlike his brother; Carlo does not have a heavy undercoat. He can hang out there and look out the window at live bird T.V.

This morning when I got home from my long beautiful walk there was a fluffed up tough gray brown tabby in my patio well talking trash to my guys through the glass door. He had tags on and I have never seen him before. There was another dead finch out there on Thanksgiving Day. Today I grabbed the feeders and brought them in and menaced the fellow with a spray bottle with tap water in it.

I was up before dawn to get out to my Weight Watchers meeting. It is not hard these days to be up before dawn with the deep pervasive endless seeming dark.

There are big changes happening at Weight Watchers. They say the biggest changes in 50 years. It will all be revealed in a few weeks. I wonder now that Oprah owns 10% of the company if we will see her lose weight and keep it off.

If it worked for everyone it would not be in business, it is like the gym business model that assumes you won’t go. The statistics are the same. Only 5% of folks who lose weight by any diet plan keep it off. It is a hard row to hoe and I just read an article that says if you do lose weight, the program you are working with or are on gets the credit and if you gain it back (my body is saying yes please) it is your personal failing.

There was a young woman at the meeting that was in Paris on the 13th. I was glad to be there and hear her story. They were going to travel to Morocco afterwards and once they were able to get out of France they just came home. She was with her brother and she described what it was like for her parents back here as the reports were coming in that night.

I am hoping to finally spend some time with S. tomorrow who has been back from her trip for a week. We’ve been exchanging texts. She messed up her back because of so much time traveling in confined spaces. I wonder if we will walk the First Run together at midnight on New Years again this year. It all depends on the weather

Planning for my big dental surgery and talking to Kes about hearing related issues I have started wearing earplugs when I walk the East Bank Esplanade, which is right by the freeway. I forgot them today but because it was a holiday weekend and early the traffic wasn’t too bad. The ambient sound here is too loud to hear something and wear ear buds out and about. You have to jack the volume up to unhealthy levels.

And because I am out walking so often these last few years I decided to splurge and get Blue tooth capable around-ear headphones. Saint Joe and Most Honorable and I all did research and I decided to go for a Bose SoundLink II. I just finished charging them up and can wander around the whole apartment without my iPad or my android phone. That is so amazing.

This will be such a luxury when I am recovering from the procedures, to be able to rest and listen to all sorts of interesting and engaging “stuff”. Right now, Miss Wo Wo here, is listening to is an interview with an author that has written a book about energy healing for animals…particularly dogs, cats and horses. My cat sitter would love this book!

When I was learning a particular type of meditation that was pretty far out when I lived in San Francisco I used to practice on my beloved namesake cat Noko. I would fluff up her aura. And see if I could get her to purr. :)

I also got an audiobook version of The Great Courses on Mythology that I will start listening to when I finish my series on Western Philosophy. I have always admired folks with Classical educations who can knowledgably talk about the myths and archetypes and of course they are everywhere in poetry.

The hardest part about anticipating the next few weeks busy at work and waiting for the procedures is not eating too much, emotional eating. I am still under my goal weight but I am packing it on. Oh yeah, and there is Christmas in there too.

Oh well. I shall revel in my uniquely human vulnerability and make of it what I can.
