Well, it’s been a week since I posted. Here’s a rundown of what’s happened.
I didn’t end up buying the dehumidifiers. I was advised that they’re better to get in Sendai, and I figured that I’d go and grab them. However, it didn’t end up working out.
The Eighteenth was another nondescript day save for continuing problems with Inori Sensei. She’s just not in a good place. I’d later find out (Friday the 20th) that her sister died in a car crash and had been in a coma that day.
The nineteenth, I got up early and got on a bus to get to Kagoshima. Got to the hotel, dropped off our stuff because we were told we couldn’t check in, then found out we could check in, so we dropped our stuff off. Then went to registration. Sat through a surprisingly interesting keynote, and did some general meeting stuff. None of it was terribly helpful, but it was interesting, and that was good enough. It’s a big JET, JTE, skills development conference that’s done every year.
Thursday night I went out to a big party with the other JETs, and ended up getting far, FAR, too drunk, and I didn’t do my eating/drinking ritual to overcome it. Woke up Friday morning still drunk with the hangover starting. Went on to sit through a bunch of dull lectures being incredibly hungover and sleepy. As it turns out, it may actually have been food poisoning as everybody who went to that restaurant was complaining about feeling bad for the next several days. Well, finished the conference wherein nothing of real interest happened, got on a bus, came home, dicked around online for a bit, and went to bed.
Saturday I got up and went to guitar. Then went to Sendai to try to get some Indian food. Not aware, yet, that this was food poisoning, I thought I was in the second day of a hangover, and I was trying to eat my way out of it. With predictable results. Anyway, didn’t go to the electronics stores because I was not in any state to compare the finer points of dehumidifiers. Hence the nap.
Woke up from the nap and killed time while steadfastly refusing to play video games.
Sunday I was up at a weird time, still feeling like garbage, and I eventually succumbed to the urge to play video games as the weather was foul, and I was still feeling like too much crap to make anything of nice weather.
Oh, I forgot to mention, my sleeping pill supply was supposed to give out on the 20th. However, I started skipping some days and taking some days because on Wednesday when I went to the doctor, the office was closed. And of course it was closed Saturday and Sunday.
Monday was another day of awful migraine weather. So, yeah, first hangover with food poisoning, then food poisoning with migraine. Hooray for this weekend. Yeah. Played a lot of Civ III. Slept a lot. Ate a lot. Monday was also Japanese Thanksgiving (whatever that means), but in Satsuma, it means less, especially when you’re sick.
Maybe I’ll revisit this time, but I still feel like crap as I write this. I’m sure maybe something nominally interesting happened, but nothing comes to mind. What I do know is this:
Five days of bad eating can undo five weeks of diet and exercise. Quite literally.
Sleeping pills do some good.
Smoking cigarettes is just unpleasant no matter how much you try to like it.
Headaches lose their luster after the second day, and by the fifth life is unfair.
My apartment is disgusting.
I need sleep.
