Dinner party in blackpropaganda

It seems a long time ago but there was a time when we were regularly going out to someone’s house for dinner at the weekend, or giving a dinner party for six people. It was a great way to keep in touch, and was the occasion for eating good food and drinking good wine.

Now it happens very rarely, and SW… is just not into spending a long time in the kitchen, and never having the chance to sit down an chat. So last night was a change. We were invited out to a friend’s house for dinner with another couple and a friend and since it is out in the country we had a taxi for all five of us. Not cheap - but worthwhile - since the rain was pouring down and it was quite dodgy coming home with standing water - and anyway you need to have some of the fine wine on offer.

Everyone has been friends for years, wither as work colleagues or in social activities. No trouble about finding stuff to talk about - and the food was wonderful, from herring pate as a starter, to venison pie (yum) , through to cheese, and then a chocolate cup with home grown raspberries. White wine, red wine and a sweet wine!

The great thing was we started earlyish and had the taxi home at 11 pm. There have been times when we came home after 1 am - and I am not up to that now.

So, today, the rain has stopped but it is dark and dank - we shall have a fire, catch up with Strictly Come Dancing from Blackpool (just to say I have danced in the Tower Ballroom there) - and have a quiet time. And not eat very much.
