There is no doubt that in a number of ways the attacks in Paris are another kind of watershed in how we live our lives - but I worry when President Hollande uses the rhetoric of fighting a war to the end - reminiscent of GW Bush’s ‘War on Terror’ which it was impossible to win.

There will be more checks, and the increase in numbers of the security services in the UK is just one sign of the change - but invariably we are one or two steps behind those who want to destroy.

Is there any more that can be said about the attacks in France? It will be interesting to see when news organisations decide not to have a news anchor live from Paris - the story will have moved on to something else. last night the ITV news linked a whole range of stories to the main one with hashtagParisattacks - by the way have all the holidaymakers in Sharm come home yet?

Anyway, life, as they say, goes on.

For many of us that means lots of rain - very soon Barney will be upon us - the second storm this winter - and this time hitting the south of England - so bound to be a big story since that is where the broadcasters live! We used to have a springer spaniel called Barney who was useless as a gun dog since as soon as he heard a noise he went and hid. If he trod on your foot you felt it - and eventually his back legs went - as with many springers - but he went to heaven happy having met a bitch on heat in the kennels and had an erection which would not go down.

Ah, if only!!!!
