Rusting away? in A small but passable life.

I’ve finished reading “Seeing” by Jose Saramago and “The Robber Bride” by Margaret Atwood. There is a subplot in “Seeing” that was made into a movie. I wish the main plot would’ve been made into a movie.
A week ago, Friday, the van got a new battery. That’s the third one since 2007. Not too bad. The new one in 2012 and this last one were pro-rated, at about half the price. Apparently batteries are to be no longer pro-rated. And yesterday the van got four new tires. The last new tire was purchased summer of 2009. All the others were much older. Much older.
I feel more comfortable now about the youngsters driving the van through the upcoming Winter. The old tires alone would have made things rather dicey.
The tire guys found something plastic that costs $25 but will cost five times as much to replace. Next on the list I guess. And I noticed, as the van was being driven into the bay, rust trying to break through on the lower body. That saddened me, as there is really nothing to be done about it. The van is, after all, twenty-three years old.
I’m trying to stay away from news sites. I’m afraid there will be backlash and overreaction. I’m thinking things are fixing to get a whole lot uglier.
Anyway, I’m on to the next book in the pile.
