The view from my window in The View from the Terrace

It’s a beautiful sunny autumn day today and quite warm too. I woke with one of my migraines so I am still resting in bed. From the bedroom window the autumn colours are looking glorious. From my bed I can see the top of the lilac tree mingling with the overgrown branches of the forsythia. The lilac is still green but a lot of the forsythia has turned a rich burgandy red. Lots of little birds hop in and out of the branches, mainly sparrows and a few tits. A blue tit flew right up to the window earlier.
There is a railway running along the bottom of the garden and the main road is beyond that but you can’t see either of those from the house; the trees hide the railway and the road is below us and totally out of sight, so the view is just countryside. Their are fields beyond the road and a wooded hill beyond that with the trees all showing different colours. All of that I can see without even getting out of my bed.
I had been hoping to go to our local folk club tonight but I don’t think I will feel up to it. That is disappointing as it is months since I have been there. It is only once a month and something has prevented me each time; I haven’t been well, or the car has broken down or I was in Cardiff with my daughter. I think the last time I went was in May. I think I need to find another folk club, if I have two there will be a better chance of me getting to one or other of them. There is the open mic in Abergavenny but I am not so keen on that nowadays, it is not really my kind of music and I only have an accoustic guitar. I keep getting hints about buying a new one but guitars are expensive and I am not sure I can justify that for the occasional open mic, my own Spanish guitar is fine for folk clubs.
I am begining to accept that this is my life now. I don’t think my health is ever going to improve. The migraines are milder but the side effects from the meds are more severe so it is swings and roundabouts. I’m starting to get other age related problems. My knee is sometimes so painful that I find stairs and going up slopes very difficult and I can’t kneel any more, but I am 68 so I suppose that’s life.
I am very glad that we moved here when we were young. The views from my windows really pick me up when I feel a bit down. I don’t have to go anywhere to experience all of the glories of nature, it is right there outside of my window.
