Unexpected But Delightful in Everyday Ramblings

So very late we are finally seeing dahlias here in my neighborhood. I took this a few days ago. The colors are so unexpected this time of year. If you look carefully into the glare to the left of the shot you can see a tree turning fall colors.
One of the students who I am very fond of in the morning class came this morning after having experienced a personal tragedy that it is her story to tell but it made teaching class today both a tearful honor and a responsibility. She will remember this time as surreal (her word), as a blur and as and a time of extremely heighted experience. We all cried a little and she felt bad about that and I felt bad about her feeling bad and all one can do is try to keep one’s heart open and be there to listen.
I was thinking about how nothing at work has really changed. The people are all so odd and it is difficult, a minefield really to be in the office but what has changed is me. There they are, working and feeling miserable and expressing that pain in all sorts of dysfunctional ways and there I am out in the world doing something I love that in some small way can bring a little comfort and ease into the lives of others.
A few days ago I had an impromptu meeting with Nimrod and my new Director. He is the most powerful man in the organization I have ever worked for and I had gotten up early to read anatomy and work on a class specifically designed to release and strengthen the neck and rotator cuff because I have students with issues in both those areas and they are connected.
Waiting for Nimrod I am alone in his office, I think we will call him Mr. Lion and he is looking at his computer screens, he has a very neat office, and I notice that he is totally and completely in the head forward position jutting his chin towards his screens and really throwing his neck out of alignment.
Of course I had to say something.
I think he took it okay. He used to practice Bikram Yoga he says and that he was recovering from a pretty serious, umm, shoulder, rotator cuff injury that Nimrod told me later he experienced while working out with kettle bells. Afterwards I was like, why did I say anything, why why why? But yesterday he walked by and smiled at me so I think we are good. He is a nice guy and very smart.
A. the woman whose class I am subbing has asked if I would take the Monday class forever. She is having childcare issues and clearly wants to stay with the baby. I asked Nimrod today if I could do it until the first week in January when I have the first of what will be many many dental appointments and he said yes.
I’ll be going from teaching four classes a week to two but those two will be on the same day. And I like working with the same material with different populations.
Diego let me clip all of his back claws today. I also managed to get three of his front ones a few days ago. And I am being very careful about my face around him. Both of the cats have put on a bit of weight these last six months and he is getting a little chunky. He is such an oddly shaped little guy to begin with. But smart! And a goof ball.
The cats are both total good balls. They have fun and they make me laugh.
Another student wants to get together and talk about starting a class in her building downtown. It would be very close to where I live and a good demographic for me but I need to be careful about taking on too much.
I am relieved to see an email from her saying we can do it next weekend. I just want to do my morning chores tomorrow and make these savory mini muffins and curl up and read all afternoon. Oh yeah.
