Well, this weekend I bought a piano. You know sometimes you get that feeling when you need to do something and you think, “I know, I’ll buy a piano”, and then everything is suddenly OK again. So, I went and found a little 6 octave Boyd instrument. Iron frame, upright, overstrung, underdamped obviously. Dates from around 1940. Here it is:
So that’s going to be delivered next week. All terribly exciting. No idea where the television is going to go now.
The boy is going for his martial arts black belt and one requirement is that he has to run 3 miles in 30 minutes. So, we tried a test run on Saturday. We did about 1.5 miles in 11.5 minutes. I think that’s a good start. I nearly died incidentally. I also did 30 lengths of the swimming pool the same evening. More worrying I think is that he has to do 35 press ups in 1 minute. I’m not even going to attempt that. He hasn’t realised how tough that’s going to be yet.
The Labour Party leadership debacle has come to an end at last. It was hilarious right up to the last minute when Jeremy Corbyn was announced as the new leader with almost 60% share of the vote and 3 times as many votes as his nearest rival. The Labour Party elite must be so angry after doing everything they could to try and stop him winning. They even tried banning some people from voting. I assume his tenure as leader will be short since just about everyone in his party in Westminster basically loathes him. There must be a leadership challenge is the pretty near future. I wonder if Harriet Harman will try and bounce him out.
Just one other thing about the above; Jeremy is the new Labour Leader, and Tom Watson takes over as his deputy. Hence the headlines should really read, “Tom and Jerry now running Labour Party”.
Also in the news, Queen Elizabeth has overtaken Queen Victoria as Britain’s longest reining monarch. The headline there should be, “Queen becomes UK’s longest Ruler”.
