Driven to Distraction and Back in Everyday Ramblings

The cats have been driving me slightly crazy lately. I feed them their wet food dinner at 4:30 and about an hour before that if I am working at home they start agitating for food. Diego walks across whatever electronic device I am using purposefully and then if I am sitting he walks into my lap, snuggles for a moment and then either baps my glasses, pulls on the hood strings of whatever hoody I am wearing or just plain nips at me. Carlo drapes. He’ll get right next to me, no matter what I am doing and will drape himself over in a lolling but very intentional way to make sure that under no circumstances whatsoever I forget that he is hungry and wants food. Now.
They take turns.
I don’t remember signing up for this! …Nor do I remember signing up for the wrestling that goes on over my feet on the bed early in the morning when I am sleeping.
Don’t get me wrong. I love the cats and they make me laugh and I am ever so grateful they are healthy happy guys… But could we please just chill about the food thing?
They’ve been with me 10 months now and you would think they could relax a little.
And honestly, they have. A bit. But we still have a ways to go…
Anyway I have started looking for reasons to leave the apartment between 3:30 and 4:30 PM and Friday I went out with the camera to capture a few fall foliage shots from things I had seen earlier walking home from the studio in the rain.
Then I thought I might go over and take some shots of the track. That area there on the far side of the track with all the trees is where the Park Department (underwritten by Under Amour) is proposing putting the 46 parking spaces.
You can clearly see why 70 people from the complex up behind there came to the meeting.
As I type this Carlo is up rubbing his face on the screen of my laptop as an attention getting mechanism.
So now it is later. It has been a beautiful clear windy day here and we had two big events by the river. The Sunday Parkways, which is a family-centric bike event that this time went over the new bridge and a well attended walk to raise funds for ALS research. S. and Kes (who met for the first time today) and gorgeous Freida the standard poodle and I all walked through all of that chatting and hanging out. I ended up walking over 10 miles (17.059 km) today.
This is good because S. and I are going to walk our own private half marathon next Sunday. She’s going on a road trip after next week and I am saving all my pennies for my dental surgery and we both donate extensively to charity in various ways as it is.
I learned an interesting lesson about how to be a better and more effective teacher this week and I am looking forward to putting that into practice tomorrow.
Having Kes here made the cats happy and they are actually leaving me alone right this moment. Sweet!
