Glorious Light in the Isolation Chamber in Everyday Ramblings

This is one of our older way too well used bridges. I took this shot Friday from the new bridge. It was such a beautiful fall day and we are having another one of those today. We did have one night recently where it rained so hard we had puddles the next day and that was a welcome relief. The heat has finally subsided as well as the worst of the wild fires. I love the light!

I spent the weekend focusing on yoga but I also listened to an audiobook that Rose Sunrise recommended over on Facebook. It is called Station Eleven and is by Emily St. John Mandel. One of the major things the critics in the New York Times complained about in their reviews is one of the major things I enjoyed about the book.

It is a post-apocalyptic story and the two reviewers thought it wasn’t gritty or real enough. In some ways it harks back to Westerns that tell you that someone has been, oh say, shot in a gunfight and then they drop to the ground. You don’t see the exit wound. It is left up to one’s imagination.

I was totally hooked into the story and it made me think of all the little things that I take for granted, like nail clippers. I liked the idea that most folks wouldn’t devolve into savages but would try to live a full rich life that included art, laugher and kindness. It was up for a National Book Award and I understand why it didn’t win but she sure deserves bonus points for genre bending audacity.

Going into this whole other world for a few days was a nice break.

And it made me brush up on the story of King Lear. :)

My head is fine. It hurts when I wrinkle my brow or put my forehead on the floor but I don’t even have bruising. I will have a slight scar though…

I’ve been a little too self-contained lately and hope to get some more social events on the calendar. Oh, we are having a getting to know your neighbor pizza party a few weeks from now so that will be something.
