It was rugby all the way over the weekend with the highlight being Japan beating South Africa - but I did not see it since I was escorting a friend’s wife to an awards ceremony. I have done this before, since he does not like wearing a DJ and it is compulsory for those attending. However, he did drive us there - and helped out some of the organisers - so while we had canapes and champagne he was slumming it elsewhere.
I know some people thought it odd - but I have done it before with her - and I quite like it - not quite the same as escorting her to an sex party while her husband holds the tissues, but still fun!
Luckily I had had a good lunch because you never really get enough to eat with canapes, and I had three glasses of champagne - so thank goodness he was driving home!

I am not a Downton Abbey viewer - in fact I have never seen it - so not bothered about seeing the last series - instead I enjoyed ‘The Go Between’ on BBC 1 - LP Hartley’s story of the boy who takes messages between the lovers and becomes the instrument of their destruction. All set in a summer of sunshine it was a great production ( try to forget Julie Christie) - and the lad was exceptional. All in 90 minutes again - as someone pointed out it was champagne to Downton Abbey’s flat fizz.

And RIP Jackie Colins - she of the exposes of high life among the rich and famous - and other tales - was she really in her mid 70s? And Joan is older - well I never
