… this time mostly in College Town.
Day started moody. Weather-wise. We were all in a good mood. And you’ll be happy to know we have not run out of conversation topics. We may be repeating ourselves repeatedly but it’s ok because we don’t remember everything.
This is Jim’s phone picture.
We got moving around ten or so. And proceeded westward past the Honda, Yamaha and Harley dealers without making a purchase - I told you we weren’t shoppers.
In College Town we went first to the book store. It has a mosaic above the front door.
We of course bought more books. I now own Infinite Jest - unless of course I already owned it - if so I now own two copies. I bought a children’s book that is very cute. I will show it to you next time I get the chance. lbh bought a present - shhhhhh - and a book about the Chilean miners who were trapped and then rescued. It’s called Deep Down Dark.
Then since we were so lucky shopping, we went to the Hotel Winnesheik and drank craft beer. We each had Dorothy’s Lager and I had a sample of Golden Nugget IPA which is sort of grapefruit-y - both Toppling Goliath brews. We had a delightfully accommodating waitress who told us the bar didn’t open till 5 pm but we could have wine or beer or if we wanted a ‘drink’ she would call a bartender and get instructions and make it for us. As I already said we chose beer.
Then we met fellow OD/PB person Tick Tock Tick for lunch. We had a nice lunch. Edamame succotash, and kale and potatoes, quinoa salad and roast pork. Meeting internet friends is a wonderful discovery - always.
Then we went to Vesterheim where lbh got to celebrate her 25% Norwegian-ness. She has been surprised to find so much Norwegian culture in the Midwest.
I took a picture of this:
And this:
I doubt you can read the text in the bottom picture - it’s a Norwegian engagement ring - my joke. Text said that the wooden implement is used for smoothing clothes. It also said that young men carved ornate wooden ‘irons’ for prospective wives.
We eventually wended our way home on the windy road which was under mild construction.
Tomorrow we are going to try to do some more painting.
Life is good.
