Day whichever... in These titles mean nothing.

I’m beginning to regret that I’m not naming the days like Seinfeld episodes - the one we did this, the one we did that, the one we did almost nothing. Oh well I am not Larry David. I am less rich and more cute. Take us as we are.
Yesterday was Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, the first day the world was back in its workaday harness. lbh and I were free of constraints and we had a good time. It had rained again overnight - another storm with lightning and thunder and Gracie under the bed. This time though the air cleared and our oppressive humidity let up.
We got a late-ish start. We made lunch!!!! It was quite good.... remember we do not have high standards. We had lbh’s marinated steak - a four ingredient marinade, catsup, garlic, soy sauce and honey, my potato salad and a green salad. We were quite proud of ourselves for putting together a meal.
Then we took off on a trip to the near north.
-
First Lansing where we visited Horsfalls. Horsfall’s is an institution. Not exactly my idea of a tourist attraction but it’s somewhat unique. It’s a huge ‘variety’ store that has everything. EVERYTHING. It consists of two stores. The second one was playing Stevie Ray Vaughn. lbh bought socks. I am not a good shopper. Period.
-
Then Reno Bottoms where there was tall grass growing through the water. I was disappointed there was not more of a water view but the thing about Reno Bottoms is it’s beautiful no matter what. We walked a moderate ways out - to the first corner on the dike and then came back. The air and sky etc were very nice… and as usual we had it pretty much all to ourselves.
-
Then on to LaCrosse, via LaCrescent. To enjoy the urbanity. First we turned up at Fayze’s. I regret disappointing our waiter James by moving ourselves into the bar. It’s complex. It is what it is. We had a sweet pretty waitress who made us peach sangrias and then brought us versions of gyros on pitas that you eat with a knife and fork. We finished off with iced coffees.
-
Then down the street to the paint it yourself shop. It didn’t seem open. We went back to the book store and bought more books. What can I say?
-
We went back to the paint it yourself shop to find out we were half an hour late and had to catch up to everybody else. We were capable of that. Bottom third to half of canvas green for grass - check. Top center yellow for sky - yellow for sky? ok - check. Add tree trunks - check. Work on tree tops - either pink and red for spring or red and orange for fall - we chose pink and red for spring - check. Some people added black silhouette figures at the horizon, we did not. I ended up putting a road down the middle of mine to fix various lettering mistakes and failures to plan ahead. We had a good time.
-
We came home.
Now it’s Wednesday morning. Today we have more painting to do and we are going to pay taxes. Maybe a dog walk. We have three fifteen thousand step days - Friday at the fair, Saturday in LaCrosse, Monday at the parks with their mountains. We had two around six thousand steps days - Sunday when we rested and yesterday when we cooked and did what we did yesterday.
Oh by the way we saw one of the river queens headed north not far south of LaCrosse. Must have been the Mississippi Queen, it looked newer than the Delta Queen.
Here are some semi random photos.
Note: lbh’s camera’s memory card does not fit in my computer or we could post some of hers. You will get them when she returns home.
First Reno Bottoms which while grassy was still photogenic.
There was a lone fisherman at the first spillway.
And here’s an abstract of scum.
And here’s the painting class.
We were going to have you guess who painted what but then I put my initials on mine to it’s less of a contest.
Here is a link to the painting place’s FB page. (We are there too).
Plans for tomorrow include lunch with Tick Tock Tick. And Vesterheim.
