homeward bound in poetry

look down from your flight
at all the blinking lights
in the madness of the night
pretend they blink for you
tomorrow morning
when the sun is shining bright
maybe you’ll remember
all the reasons why
you’d be even worse off
if that were really true
a bucket of responsibility
when you could hide out in futility
fueling all of that utility
when you could just be you
but what’s a cramped landgazer
crawling coast-to-coast to do?
pretend they blink for you

this makes me miss summer nights out in Indiana where the sky can get near-perfectly clear and way more stars and other celestial bodies are visible than from the foggy/hazy skies around here.
