ode to the terrifying in poetry

the pissant Jesus freaks wouldn’t have a prayer and
the vampires of the valley wouldn’t last a night and
the powerful prefer their lovers weaklings and
the brawlers just could not last the fight
you are a resplendent wildfire and
I am the sheltering sky and
unlike all those regular guys
I could survive you

you are mighty and strong
raging and inspiring
I am changeable and constant
flighty but abiding
and you’re so goddamned amazing
they’re afraid of you
I am bumbling but vast
I was built to waver but built to last
I can share your little moments of deep peace with you
I could survive you

you burn away the forests as you shine like the sun
I might stumble in the clouds but I don’t know how to run
you’re too powerful the pretty men would not know what to do
but I could survive you
and in time
I could love you
