Collecting the post in The View from the Terrace

Yesterday morning I went round to the pharmacy to collect the post. Cat and David can’t have their post delivered to the door as they haven’t worked out a way that is secure The back gate to the yard does have a slot for letters but you can’t fix a letter box behind it because, when you open the gate it goes right to the wall. It has to be possible to open the gate fully as otherwise they can’t get the rubbish bin out on Wednesdays. Hubby was trying to sort something out on Sunday but the box he brought wouldn’t fit. So meanwhile the post is delivered to the pharmacy below the flat and you have to go around the corner to the front entrance to collect it .
The lady in the pharmacy always tells me that my prescription is ready when I go there. Of course that isn’t me as I don’t live here! She says I have a double here in Cardiff. I can’t help but wonder if she is a distant relative. I know from my family history research that there is a branch of our family that came to Cardiff but they would be fifth cousins so it would be strange if we looked that alike.
This happened to me once before. When I was 14 my parents moved from Shropshire to Sussex and at my new school someone told me they knew my sister. When I said I didn’t have a sister she said, ‘But she must be your sister, she looks exactly like you.’ Perhaps that girl from Sussex has now moved to Cardiff!
After collecting the post I popped into the 2 local charity shops. I found a pretty floral summer skirt in purple, turquoise and orange, exactly my colours and only £1, there was also a book of Irish songs, I might find something for the folk club, and a book of ghost stories. That is funny because I haven’t been sleeping too well so I bought some Kalms at the pharmacy to help, then I go across the road and buy a book of ghost stories! I don’t think they will keep me awake though, it’s more likely to be the students partying next door or the constant sirens from police and ambulances. I’m still missing the birdsong when I wake and the glorious sunsets that you get at our house, but city life is fun too.
