Uh Oh… - 12/30/2005

The Christmas Shoes - Newsong/Three Of Hearts

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

A belated Christmas song, cos it’s sweet and I’ve always loved it.

Originally this entry was going to be a survey, but I answered about 10 questions and then realised I wasn’t really enjoying it, and it wasn’t asking questions I wanted to answer, so this has now turned into an entry instead.

It’s bad when you’re at a stage where when I go to write in my diary, I’ve done that much stuff I wanna write about, that I can’t remember half the stuff I did.

I guess yesterday was a good day cos Luke came over the night before, and that morning I got a phone call from my boss saying I was owed a day, and didn’t have to come into work that day if I didn’t want to! I couldn’t believe it! Normally bosses call you up to tell you to come IN to work, not to stay home! It was great cos Luke had the day off too, so we went and had fun all day.

God it was SO hot though. It’s getting unbearable soon, it was 38 yesterday and I dunno what it was today but geesh. Luke and I went and had lunch at Chermside, and then we decided to go ten-pin-bowling at the Chermside one - cos it was cheaper than 2 other places we checked, and I’d never bowled there before. My first game I bowled 180!!!! I have NEVER ever gotten a score that high in ten-pin. My other two games I scored like 80 or 90, which confirms that the first game was a complete fluke :) I was going on about it all day - I mean gee, it’s a huge achievement for me! Luke reckons when I’m 80, i’ll still be going on about it haha. After that we went home and decided to go eat at luke’s work (another place I haven’t been - well to eat anyway) and the whole night Luke’s workmates kept coming up and sitting next to us, talking and laughing heaps - even though they were still on shift. His workmate’s are awesome! Travis was on front end, a cute 16 year old (I think) who Luke reckons is a closet-case. And another Bi guy was there. And a heap of girls, all workmates/friend’s of Lukes. We went there also to ask Jacqulen if we could use her tennis court to play tennis that night, after she finished her shift. Of course it was okay. They are such a great family. I met most of the family last night - the 2 parents and 5 kids, they live on this gorgeous property about 20 mins out of the city, and they have a tennis court and a pool and the house is amazing. Really peaceful to live in I reckon. Luke reckons it suits Jacq’s personality perfectly. I agree. So Luke and I played tennis, and we had sweat pouring off us, so then jumped in the pool. I was a bit self-conscious bout my body, then thought ‘fuck it’ and stripped off and jumped in. God the water was so warm, it was perfect. Their pool has lights beneath the water, so only the pool lights up, not really around it - it looks so awesome.

Back-tracking: the whole day wasn’t good. After Luke and I left Chermside, after bowling, we got back to my car and realised there was little puddles of water around my car. He checked underneath, as did I and knew something was wrong. I checked my radiator and sure enough there was nothing in there. There was no way I was gunna drive home with no water in my radiator, so I opened the boot and got my radiator cooler out (which I always carry on me in the boot for these occasions), and poured some in there. I probably poured about a quarter or a bit less than that of the bottle, when it all came pouring out from beneath the car. Uh oh. All i could think of doing was to get out of the carpark and get the car home as quickly as I could. Luke suggested turning the heating on, as that would take some of the strain off the heat of the engine. The car made it all the way to the intersection of Beams Rd, on Gympie Rd, which is a major intersection. I was in the left hand turning lane on Beams Rd, when the car simply stalled. I was right at the front of the lane. I turned the key… nothing. Uh Oh.

Anyway so so cut a long story short, Luke got out and decided to run back to the house to get his car - cos it wasn’t really that far, and he loves the excercise anyway - God it was so hot though I’m surprised he didn’t pass out. He said he’s go home, charge his phone (cos it decided to die on him) and call me to find out where I was. I’d called RACQ and was waiting for them for ages. I had my hazard lights on and was pointing frantically out the wondow to tell drivers of the other cars turning on Beams Rd, to get in the right-hand lane, as I couldn’t move!

God some people are stupid though. There I am, pointing frantically out the window, trying to tell them to get in the other lane. Of course a few cars decide to park right behind me, therefore blocking my hazard lights view for the other drivers, and therefore a huge line-up to turn. Of course the green arrow came on and they honked their horn. I seriously felt like getting out of the car, going to their window, motioning for them to wind down the window, and punch them in the face. I was doing all I could, being stranded in a major intersection. Mind you this was between 5:00pm and 5:30pm, so this is peak-hour traffic. I saw an RACQ van drive right past me, and I got a call from a lady saying they couldn’t find me. I was like, ‘but a guy just drove right past me!!’ - It questioned me to think whether my hazard lights were actually working on not, but i wasn’t game to get out of the car due to the congestion of traffic either side of me - the main road with the cars whooshing past, and the light-hand-unblocked-turning-lane onto beams rd, which most people hopped into when they saw me motion for them to get in that lane. God it was stressful though. I told the lady I was in a bad spot and she said she’d send out a tow-truck as soon s possible. It took forever for the truck to arrive hey. It was about 6pm when he arrived. He seemed like a friendly guy, and had his lights on. He had to drive the truck into the intersection to get in front of me, in order to get my car up on the truck. I stayed in the car the whole time. He had it tied up and levered onto the tow truck in no time at all. I then hopped out and he told me to be careful as I went around the other side and jumped in the cab. It was so cool in there - after sitting stranded in a car for like an hour straight, telling stupid people to change lanes - to get into an air-conditioned passenger cab seat. He took off and gave me the run down on what I could do. I really didn’t know what to do from there. I assumed they took the car to an RACQ premises and had a look at it there. Apparently not, or they were closed or something. This is like 6pm, so most palces are closed. I told him it was my radiator that was the problem, and he told me it was $66 to get it towed to another place. I didn’t really have a choice so I said yeh lets do that. He rang headquarters and asked them for the number for Northside Radiator Service - which they connected him to, and it rang for ages. He said to me, ‘hmm this doesn’t sound good’ Finally it picked up and a voice said ‘hello’. He made small talk for a while and found out the guy was still open, and asked him if he wanted a customer. The guy said, ‘yeh bring it around and i’ll have a look at it’. So he towed the car to Northgate. Turns out the radiator place isnt that far from the train station. Like a really short walk! The driver told me that some ladies had broken down on the freeway a few weeks ago, and that the bloke he wa taking me to, also took care of them, and was real good to them. That was nice to know, and that he trusted someone and was bringing him business. We arrived there and it was like a house, with a backyard toolshed, where the business was. Only big enough to fit two cars in there. But yeh he loaded my car off and said to go in. I knocked on the door the first time, and I could see him, but it looked like he was watching tv or something. I knocked again and opened the door a little and a voice said ‘I’m on the phone! you’ll have to wait a bit!’ or something like that. i backed off, got a bit nervous. I didn’t like that voice, maybe i’d pissed him off. I went back to the RACQ guy who was untying my car from the chains and stuff, and said that he was on the phone. I’d got my wallet and went up to him and asked how much I owed him, and he said, "Nah, it’s cool’. He didn’t charge me a cent. I guess that’s good, and maybe he’d looked up on a computer and realised I was a blue-card-RACQ holder, which is like the second highest, either that or he was just being really nice. The dude who was on the phone walked out and was nicer this time, saying he was able to talk now. I’d misjudged him. He said to drive it in, but I couldn’t. So we pushed it in. I steered and we pushed it in. The RACQ guy even helped if I remember correctly! He took a quick look at the inside and said he wouldn’t be able to tell until he had a look at it the next day, as he would’ve been about to knock off. I swapped my keys over to my spare, cos my house keys are on my proper car keys, and he took some minor details and said he’d call me in the morning. I caught the train back to Carseldine, illigally, cos I didn’t have the change for a ticket. I won’t be able to use that excuse when they bring the new ticket machine’s out, the one’s that accept notes as well as coins. Oh well saved myself about 3 bucks. lol.

Luke rang when I was on the train home and I told him my story. He came over later that day and yeh that’s when we did our bowling stuff and Lonestar and tennis and swimming at Jacq’s house. That was fun, plus it took my mind off the car.

The guy rang the next morning, kind of at a bad time as Luke and I were…well yeh. But I had to answer incase it was him, and it was. he said my car would be ready to be picked up in an hour. it was 10:30am when he rang, and I had to start work at 12:30pm today. Luke kindly drove me there, me giving him directions. I had to remember teh way the RACQ guy went - got it wrong a few times, but found the place eventually. The guy told me what was wrong with the car, but there was more to it. I was like ‘Uh oh’. He said that he’d cleaned the radiator and changed a whole heap of it and stuff, but that the Welsh Plug was buggered. I was like ‘great’, but the guy gave me a suggestion on what I could do. He said that there was a place up the road called "Ideal Rental Cars", who mainly rent out Magna’s (which is what my car is), and the guy who is the mechanic might look at my car. He said, "He might take a look at it for ya, he might tell ya to get stuffed, I dunno." We went into his office, and I paid him his invoice of $195 for his trouble (was $225 but the radiator fluid went right through so he didnt charge me for that). He helped me wheel my car back out to the street and said for me to start it and straighten it up on the side of the street. He’d charged my battery for me! So yeh my car starts and I straightened it up. I walked back over the Luke and told him my story. I walked up to the rental place, cos we’d passed in on the way there. I was so glad when I got inside cos it was fucking hot as outside, and their office was cool. I was so nervous. i was babbling my words. I said to the lady behind the counter, "Are you Suzy?". She replied, "No, I’m Mandy". I knew the people’s names cos the Radiator mechanic gave me the names of the rental people and the mechanic. I told her my story of how ‘Greg’ told me to come up here and how I heard they specialise in magna’s, and maybe they could help me out by taking a look at my car. I added that I’d pay for their services of course. mandy wandered out the back and this large guy stood near the door. "Welsh plug eh?" he asked. I said "Yeh". "Front or Rear?" - I said "Rear", because that’s where "Greg" had pointed when he said the plug was stuffed. "Fuel Injected or Carborated?" - "Fuel Injected" I replied. He said he wouldn’t be able to look at it til next Tuesday, on account of all the public holidays and other part’s companies not being open, and on holidays, but to go back and bring my car up the street and park it across the road, and give my details to Mandy. I asked how much it’d be, and braced myself for his answer. I was waiting for anywhere between $500-$1000. He said, ‘well it’s a day-long job, it’s not easy.’ I braced myself. "$250" he said. I tried not to act surprised. i guess it is just one thing, but still $250 is a lotta money, and I’d just paid nearly $200 to the other guy. I thanked him and walked out back up the street, told Luke that they said they’d look at it for me, and I drove my car up to the place. I mean it wasn’t that far, so hopefulyl shouldn’t have wrecked anything, plus I drove carefully, hardly accellorated at all. I wasn’t taking an chances. I parked my car where he told me too, walked inside, gave Mandy my details after whse finally got off the phone, and she said they’d give me a call probably next Tuesday, hopefully ready to pick up next Wednesday. I walked outside and Lukey drove me to work. I made it on time too. Woohoo!

Damn car. So now I have to go 4 days, maybe more, without a car. Gunna be itneresting getting my groceries this week. Will just have to buy small and catch the bus or train I guess. Spose I could cab, but nah too expensive. i gotta save my money to pay this other dude next week when I pick my car up.

One day of work to go tomorrow! Yay! Then New Years celebrations! I…so----can’t…WAIT! Goodbye 2005! Bring on 2006! This car thing happened in 2005, so I can throw it out with all the other crap lol. That’s how I see it. And I told Luke that about his exiction too. His last shift at his work is the 10th. Wow they are so gunna miss that guy. I know I’m gunna cry when he goes.

I would be so scared…being stranded in an intersection! Some drivers can be real idiots some times…honking their horns and all that. So annoying!!

The heat must have been a killer for you! It’ll be 42C here tomorrow passes out at the thought - just great for New Years Eve!

I hope your car gets fixed quickly and easily. Have a good New Years! [jessicah] 12/30/2005 10:26:03 AM

Michael [~Breathe_Me~] 12/30/2005 11:19:19 AM

THIRTY EIGHT DEGREES CELCIUS! In December! The idea of it is so distressing. The Southern Hempisphere is horrible, I tell yer. That’s as hot as it is in India in summer, a lot more sticky in places like coastal cities, though.

damn all cars. I seriously hate them. Mostly because I don’t know how to drive one, =)

Happy New Year in much advance, cutie. mwah. [Nesstwy.] [p] 12/30/2005 12:51:43 PM

I’ve been there with my car. Hopefully it all works out and you can get it as soon as possible. Glad to hear the rest of your day wan’t bad. Have a great new year! Take care. - Jacob [Fabulous Jacob] 12/30/2005 6:12:49 PM

There’s nothing worse than car trouble. I remember when I sold my car it was a relief in a way because there were less things to get billed for and have embarrassing moments in! Also - never drive it when there’s no radiator fluid in it, you can seize the whole engine.

I don’t know how I’ll do my shopping either as there are no nearby centres. Guess I’ll have to wait til my flatmates go. [The_Blind_Archer] 12/30/2005 7:26:26 PM

merrrhhh, cars are evil!

you had carborator fluid in your boot? nice :) just kidding. [penfifteen] 12/30/2005 8:20:17 PM

[Parthenios] [p] 1/2/2006 3:19:06 AM

Hey Matty they screw us in the US on car repair too so don’t think it’s just you. There’s even a state department, the Bureau of Automotive Repair, and you can bitch to them when you get screwed. Not that they do anything. It’s hot there? We have storms and flood warnings. Rained on the Rose Parade. You’re swimming? That’s it, I’m coming over! hehe! [mobyduck] 1/3/2006 5:39:28 PM

===========================================================================

Farewell 2005! :) pics! - 1/1/2006

How exciting. Time for an entry :)

Worked all day Saturday, but it flew by - we sold like 500 bags of ice, we were constantly filling it - everyone getting their ice for New Years Eve celebrations. Not only that, the party needs section was pretty much destroyed by the end of trade lol.

After work, I was quite lucky cos my workmate John offered to give me a lift home. Turns out I live in the same area as one of his mate’s does, so I thought that was pretty cool. I was slightly out of his way, but he was kind and dropped me outside my door. Was so nice of him. I thanked him and wished him a happy new year. It was Barb’s last day at work so she was all happy and jumpy and wishing everyone a new year. Yeah right, she’s jsut glad to get out. She’s been appointed the Customer Service Manager at Paddington, for all you Brisbane-ites reading this who wanna wander in and have a gander lol. She’s quite pretty! :)

So Yeah, after I got home, I quickly showered and changed and caught the bus into Southbank. I figured the bus would get me there quicker than having to change trains and stuff. My the end of the route, the bus was packed. This was only at like 8:30pm, but when I got to Southbank, there were people everywhere! I was like, ‘oh no, by midnight this place will be unmovable!’. I walked around there for ages, had my pockets checked by security personnel, and eventually found a spot, RIGHT on the Brisbane River, and I sat there for 2 hours and wouldn’t budge so I wouldn’t lose my spot. In previous years, I haven’t been able to get further towards Southbank than the city cos it’s been so packed. I had a PERFECT spot and I was so proud of myself. I got a phone call and it was Johnny sayig he had a problem. I was meant to be meeting up with him at Southbank, but when he rang he said he was still in Toowoomba! I was like ‘Johnny!’ He was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be there!’ Sure enough, about 11:15pm, after giving him directions on where abouts I was, John found me! I couldn’t believe it. He almost walked past until I recognised him and yelled out. He musta just heard me cos he turned and I pulled him through the crowd to where I was, and we sat on the ledge together. You couldn’t get any closer to the river, or else we woulda fell in. They had a lifesaver riding a rescue jetski, just incase anyone did I guess lol.

I then got a message saying that Scott and his friend were coming in. They had originally decided to stay home and drink. It took them ages to find us. I ended up giving my phone to John to give Scott directions cos he was just getting pissed at me cos I had no idea lol. Hey John found me alright! Anyway they eventually found us, and we pulled them to the front with us and we all sat down so the people behind us didn’t get too pissed off. John struck up a conversation with them anyway. He’s so good at talking to random people lol.

Scott eventually found us - well John spotted him! He and his friend had come along. He introduced us both to Trent, his friend from Sydney. He was a real cutie! lol. Think he’s one of those guys who knows it too - well anyway Scott and I both think he’s cute. He’s staying at Scott’s until the 10th I believe. (…Scoll over for captions…)

9:00pm fireworks - I just caught the end of it as I arrived!
John took this photo - I didn't realise I was so happy to be there hahaha I never smile like that! Was having a good time though!
Trent & Scott. Such cute boys hehe

Yeah luckily i remembered to bring my camera this time. It’s one of my New years Resolutions to take more photos so that I can put them in my diary. I mean a diary should contain pictures right? I jsut hope in future I’ll be able to do them on a DSL connection and not this crummy dial-up! lol! How do you do it Sam? Haha hope you had fun in Surfer’s babe! :)

Trent and Scott again awwww
Me & Scott
Me, Scott and Trent! :)

It was a lotta fun hanging out with the boys. John was the odd one out being straight, but he’s awesome. He reckons he was checking out a guy a few days ago and had been hanging around me too long! I think staight guys observe other guys I guess, and know when they see a good looking guy, just like I know when I see a good looking girl. On the walk back to the train station after the fireworks, John and I passed by this chick who seriously looked like a replica of Barbie - she was stunning. John and I both turned our heads as we walked past, both going ‘Dayam!’ hahaha. She was so pretty.

I like that last photo of the three of us. Obviously Johnny took the photo. When we sat down on the ledge to watch the fireworks, we had to be careful as we sat down or else we woulda slipped into the water. Trent sat next to me, and steadied himself, on my crotch - whether that was a subtle feel-up or what i dunno, but I’m pretty sure it was haha. Sneaky little bugger isn’t he lol. Scotty sat the other side and I Johnny stood behind. I realised my camera has a fireworks function, so I was so happy about that. Johnny was like ‘No Way!’ haha. I tried to take the best photo’s I could, but you get the idea anyway!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

10, 9, 8, 7.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! The Midnight fireworks!! *hugs all round!*

After the fireworks we spent ages trying to decide what we wanted to do. Trent went into the Valley to meet a friend, and probably to pick up too I think, and us three decided to go home, well back to Scott’s. Johnny bought his train ticket but then decided to go home as he was tired, so Scotty and I trained it back to his joint. It was fun there. We drank Midori - I think I’ve found an alcohol I like, finally! It took me ages to be brave enough to do my first shot. Alcohol makes me so sleepy though, it sucks. He played his guitar for me for ages, and I was so tired I nearly dozed off, and I think I did a few times, but kept waking myself up. Then we watched a porn that Trent had brought up, which was pretty good. It has the same actors in it as the one I have on my computer. Scotty was getting all horny but it didn’t really do much for me. He spent a lot of the night trying to find out how big my dick was, in any way he could, haha, but not to much avail. It was very tempting at some points though, as some of the alcohol probably kicked in lol. But nope, I was a good boy and he didn’t get what he wanted. He got so close though, and reckons he felt it but I didn’t feel anything so I doubt it. He’s a funny one. I think Trent staying with him might be depressing him a little though. Just a feeling I get. I found out that a lot of Scott’s friends are mainly hot guys, or above Scott’s standard. Kinda strange, but that’s all part of him and ya gotta love him for it. I ended up crashing on the couch, and Trent’s door was closed when I woke up, so I presume he came home sometime that morning, as I only fell asleep at about 5:00am. Woke up around 11am and went to marky’s place (my ex), who lives in Annerley, which is just a short walk up a steep hill over the railway tracks. I spent pretty much the whole day there today! It was fun! And I felt totally comfortable. I think I’m handling my New Years Resolutions pretty well. I’ve been there for my friends more on the first day, so hopefully I can keep it up. That’s the intention, so who knows what 2006 will bring.

Hope you aren’t too bored in Pitty Billy!! :)

Happy new year to all my friends and readers here on OD. I thank you for reading my diary over the past year and just wish you all the best for this upcoming year. It’s gunna be a huge one, and make each day more special than the last, cos you never know just how long you’ve got here, or the opportunities you could be missing out on if you don’t take a leap and get out of your comfort zone. :) Anyway there’s my Jerry-Springer-style-final-thought, and I shall leave you and wish you all a wonderful and amazing 2006! Mwah!!

Notes: --------------------------------------------------------------------

Love the pictures. How do you do that on OD?

~Daniel [dannyboy1505] 1/3/2006 10:47:33 AM

RYN: MATT! What are you talking about! Seriously, if I knew you in ‘real life’ I’d have a schoolgirl crush on you in under a minute. Rohit, the kid at school I’m crushing on these days, bears more than a passing resemblance to you, =) Good taste, I say, haha. [Nesstwy.] [p] 1/3/2006 12:20:28 PM

Happy New Year baby doll. Oh you are all adorable, even the straight dude…hehe. I’m adding you to my space. Love, Monica [UtahGirlie] 1/3/2006 4:17:32 PM

Hey Mattie awesome pics! For someone who’s so self-conscious about his body you sure like wearing sleeveless t-shirts! And Scott looks good without all that gunk in his hair. I had an interesting holiday but will tell you privately. Some day may have the nerve to actually write an entry. Thank you for all you have done for me and I wish you a great 2006.
love always Jeff & Joel [mobyduck] 1/3/2006 6:19:11 PM
