Beach and Movie in In the Meadow

The kids have been on summer vacation since last Wednesday. They are not doing too much right now. They will be going to camp later in the summer. On Friday we went to the beach. It is a beach near where my parents live. The water flows down from the mountains and it was cold! It was warm once you got used to it. The water was very clear. There was no algae or seaweed at all. The bottom was very sandy, and I think it was natural sand. There are no waves so the sediment settles to the bottom. The sand beach is long and there is sand in the grass as well. There was a shallow section and a deep section with two different life guards. We had a nice time. After the beach we went out for ice cream.

Saturday and Sunday were rainy. On Saturday we went to the mall. The kids got some new shoes. The twins are not quite to puberty yet and are still growing quickly. On Sunday we went to see the movie Jurassic World. I heard that this movie did not have the greatest portrayal of women and I wasn’t sure about seeing it. The kids really wanted to see it. The dinosaur effects were terrific, but the acting was not very good. We had a talk about how sometimes women aren’t portrayed well in movies, and people are not limited to the roles they see in movies. We had to wait a while to get tickets to the movie because a lot of people were there to see Inside Out, which had just opened. Jurassic World had been out for a while but there were still a lot of people in the theater. We stopped at the Dollar Store before the movie and bought some candy to have during the movie.
