I’m having a hard time getting to my diaries lately. Seems too much going on or my mind just isn’t focused enough. It has been very busy. Last Friday was my aunt’s visitation and I took Dad up around 4:45. The visitation was 5-7 so wanted him to get there before a lot of other people started showing up so he could have a bit of quiet time. His brother and SIL were already there and had been driven by their son and DIL. We stayed until past 7 and then he wanted to go to the cafe downtown to get something to eat. We did and I took him on home and then I came home. J was fine and don’t think he even missed me. He had already fixed himself some supper and was involved in a TV show.
Next morning we went to the funeral services and there were many more people at the funeral than Dad said he expected. The funeral assistant said that 6 pastors attended and she’d never seen that many different pastors attend a single funeral. My aunt’s faith was renowned by the those who knew her and her impact on other people will be felt for many years and generations to come. Quite a legacy to leave this world on I would say. I’m sure I will not leave such a positive legacy to linger after I’m gone. Guess I need to work a lot more on walking, talking, and living a spiritual walk. I want to leave a positive and joyful impression.
I did take Dad to the dinner after the graveside service and I was very glad that I went too. I know a lot of those that provided the dinner and also since their weren’t near as many people for the dinner it made conversations with cousins and other relatives and friends possible. Very good food, good company and a celebration of life.
I didn’t go to church services on Sunday as I had lots of things to do and get done before work on Monday.
Two retirements this week at work. One was one of my employees. She didn’t want a big thing, so I honored her wishes and we had a toned down celebration of her retirement. It still turned out good and I think she enjoyed it and was very touched. Since my boss was at a doctor’s appointment, he wasn’t there to present her awards and retirement certificate. She hadn’t wanted him to and asked me earlier if we could avoid him doing it. God answered her prayers and I was the honored presenter. I have been dreading her departure for months but did fine reading all the certificates and presenting her with her awards, a flag flown in her honor, and various other things. Then I read what I had written about her tenure and by the time I got to the last paragraph we were both almost weeping. Actually there were some tears shed as she was instrumental in so many ways in my Division. She and I began the job of standing this area up 8 years ago and without her, it wouldn’t have had such outstanding results. I’m going to miss her.
Rains began AGAIN on Wednesday and they didn’t mess around. Flooding again but not quite as bad as two weeks ago. Bad enough though and lots of roads were closed and the river will probably crest tomorrow. Hopefully it goes down fast and we resume to regular routes by Monday.
Went to Dude and Dudette’s yesterday after work and J and I ate hamburgers and hot dogs. They were going to set off fireworks but the town laws no not allow so they will wait until the 4th. I “think” they can discharge them on the 4th. Mickey came home with us last night and is watching something on Nick right now. She made homemade donuts yesterday at her house and they were good. I think she has a donut maker and used it but whatever she used they weren’t too sweet and just right. Isaiah will spend the night tonight as the other grandma will take the girls to 6 flags tomorrow and then Raylee may spend a night with me next weekend. It’s good that the kids have two different kinds of grandmas. The other grandma is 10 yrs younger than I am so she takes them places I wouldn’t and don’t. They get to come here for some “out in the country” time and enjoy that too. The best of both worlds I’m thinking. lol
I’ve been trying to catch up on diaries and notes and maybe can do so over this weekend but that depends on what happens from minute to minute. Wishing you all a Happy and safe Fourth of July and I pray this country of ours can refrain from all their drama for a day or two. I doubt it, but I’m going to pray that it is at a minimum.
God Bless
