Can't make sense of the world this week in Day to Day

In don’t understand the Greek situation, and economics bores the hell out of me. Don’t tell my boss, I’m supposed to get turned on by things financial. However, as far as I can see, the Greek people voted last week against austerity measures that would have satisfied their creditors in Europe. The government then went back to Europe with a new proposal widely regarded as exactly the same as the one just voted out, and Europe said yes to it. Two things occur to me. Firstly, I can’t see why the people of Greece are going to accept the new deal after essentially voting against it a week ago. Secondly, they didn’t manage to keep to the last agreement, which was less severe, so why does Europe believe that they will keep to this one? Aren’t they just going to default again?
There was to be a vote on fox hunting this week. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the current ridiculous and unworkable law was going to be relaxed, and England and Wales would instead be brought into line with Scotland. In other words entire packs of hounds could be used for fox hunting, though not to kill the fox. However, two-faced lying cow Nicola Sturgeon, SNP leader, decided that the PM is “out of step with English opinion” and declared the SNP was going to oppose the changes. So, despite her assurance that the SNP would not vote on matters not affecting Scotland, and the fact that the change she now opposes already exists in Scotland, she forced a delay in the vote.
She’s not even going to be able to stop the vote. She’s only going to delay it. The PM has now vowed to tighten up restrictions on Scottish MPs voting on matters in England and Wales before holding the vote again. She’s peeing on her own feet. Great politics Nicola; you’ve bargained away your own party’s voting power for a cause you don’t even have an opinion on, and achieved nothing more than a delay at the expense of the tax payer.
Politicians are reptiles, all of them.
On a brighter note, this week sees the launch of Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman. I have downloaded it. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel, 30 years after reading the original. I’ve been trying to avoid hearing about the plot in news reports, but it’s proving difficult.
OK, finally, this story was brought to my attention by a colleague who actually knows the guy. The story is covered in several papers and concerns an ex RAF pilot who was caught at Ascot racecourse covertly filming up the skirts of lady spectators with his camera phone. I’m not going to comment on the story itself other than to agree he’s a fairy unpleasant man.
I did want to mention a line in the report which states, “The self-confessed naturist appeared at East Berkshire Magistrates’ Court…” Almost the same line appears in the Daily Mail version and just about every version of the story. Is the implication there that he is a naturist, therefore he is a filthy pervert? Is that what the general public think naturists are?
