Monday June 4, 1990, pretty day.

Ate oatmeal, potatoes and cottage cheese. Kind of a white diet.

This is being written Thursday night and I don’t remember anything about Monday. I walked home. That’s about it.

At some point this week A announced he is having a sales meeting June 19 at our plant with all 30 to 60 of the company’s salesmen. H said we should have our quality system, SPC and success stories all fired up. He will come the 11th (Monday) to review W and my efforts, picking out the ones he wants to present the sales meeting. Kind of cute. He plans the whole day _Monday) with us. Wow.

Ahead to June 11.

June 11, 1990. Monday, cloudy, The day before my 44th birthday. WINDY again.

A came. He made sense. But it’s not that simple.

That’s all she wrote - about that anyway.

Ahead to the 19th.

The salesmen bussed down en masse. G. toured them. I got to talk to some of them.

Jamie’s 83rd birthday. Humid, cloudy day. Sultry in a word. The dog is getting hot.

I am losing all my good habits. I no longer walk I still haven’t got the rocks picked up down by Pop and Rev’s fence. I’m getting lazy about writing n my book. I’ve cut down a lot on my glueing and stapling too.

------ And here it is June already.

Semi-normal day at work. I found a whole lot of Johnson Controls at work in the crib. Chrysler put off their visit till July 23rd.

Melinda Berns had a baby girl. Rachel Lane 7 lbs 14 oz. Joan Dahlstrom likewise Cally Joan 10 lb 11 oz.

I ordered gargantuan order from LL Bean. Two shirts for Rich, 2 Tshirts for Jim. 3 cotton pants, 3 cotton shirts for Pop (in an attempt at replacing the (something I still can’t write publicly after twenty five years)). Also got a round of chambray shirts and a Tshirt and pants for me.

Pop and I went to see ‘Pretty Woman.’ Richard Gere and Julia Robert’s Cinderella movie. Funny, Gere makes all sorts of movies (he has a recent one that never got to Iowa about a crooked cop who blackmails and screws around with the wife of the internal affairs cop) but the ones that get him famous, that make MONEY are semi-sappy romances in which the white knight rescues the damsel in distress. Witness ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ and the current movie playing for a month and had a good crowd last night.

T and ux had their names in magistrates court for theft in the 5th degree. Bad checks, the consensus was. W was pretty shocked. T sure is no longer much fun at work.

Speaking of fun at work, M says C is a new man. He’s wearing his wedding ring again and seems to believe his wife might move back home. Funny world, isn’t it?

The red iris by the cellar door is blooming. The lawn looks pretty decent since Pop and John mowed it. Rolling the big chunks of wood away from the front of the cellar door helped too.

Called John about 7:00. He was on his way to DesMoines. He hadn’t worked today. Jim and Pop questioned me whether the choice not to work was John’s or not. I hadn’t thought to interrogate (one N in interrogate, how many R’s?) John said he’d call Sunday night and talk to the family.
