Saturday morning-recap of the week in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

The entry that I lost I wrote about happened in ED not PB.
This is another entry as I had written one earlier in the week and again I hit a combination of somethings and lost it! Blah!! Nope, I haven’t learned and am not using Word but do intend to save this as private along the way as I’m not sure when I’ll get here again.
Had to go back and read the last entry as wasn’t sure what or how far I’d gotten into the 4th weekend. Not far. lol
So will try to do bullets. I’d like to remember what this 4th consisted of myself. The Lord knows I will forget a lot!
Last entry Mickey was here and watching Nick. She is very independent at the ripe old age of 11 so she isn’t much trouble when it is just her. We piddled around and then I redone some stretchy jeans that I had cut the legs off of and adjusted them to make her some shorts. Also made the girls 4th of July headbands for them to wear the following day when their Nana was taking them to six flags in St Louis.
Took her home about 5 and Isaiah was waiting excitedly for his turn. He was ready for me to head back to my house with him before I even got out of the vehicle. lol He was ready and had his backpack in the Tahoe before I knew it. I did go in the house, (much to his disappointment) to talk to his parents for a minute and sample their venison lasagna that they had made for supper. It was really good. MUCH better flavor than I expected and not sure if they used any other meat or not. Whatever it was good and Isaiah didn’t think I’d ever get it eaten. He didn’t want to eat anything himself and told his parents he would eat at mawmaws. lol
We finally left and I had to go to the store. I let him pick out something for his supper and his parents had fixed some lasagna for J who had stayed home when I went to town. Got a few things at the store, Isaiah picked out a lunchable and we headed to the farm.
He played and played and played some more. I stayed outside with him as he played with the outside toys. The kids by themselves are a complete joy and they love having time without their siblings. Guess we all did when we were kids. No sharing, no fighting, no pestering and with all those “nos” there are very few times are told no or stop that, etc.
His dad came the next morning but to take my dad fishing at the creek where the river had backed up because of the flooding. They caught a lot of fish and most of them were taken to one of our ponds. After Dude took my dad home and rehomed the fish they’d caught then J, Isaiah and myself got our poles and we gave it a try. Oh my gosh, what fun I had!! I haven’t been fishing in Years and we were able to sit on the slab in lawn chairs and cast and fish. I caught two, Isaiah caught one and J caught one and dude caught 3 or 4. It had gotten hot by this time and we ended up having to clean them and put them in my freezer for later.
After cleaning fish and cleaning up the area, Dude and Isaiah headed home to take showers and get ready for the Fireworks display in town. I did the same and we went back to town that evening to watch the fireworks, get a hotdog and celebrate the Fourth. Oh what a fantastic show and evening. I hadn’t had such an enjoyable 4th of July in many years. A joined J and I to watch the firewords as she had been working hard to get this event organized and donations. She did a great job and all that were there had a great time. Dude and family were there too but I never did see them. We arrived back home a little after 10 and I went to bed not long afterwards. I was one tired woman.
Sunday morning the river had come down and the road was passable. When the waters start dropping it is usually pretty fast. We had a guest speaker for church services which were different to say the least. Not bad, but different. He is our pastor’s SIL and he is young and had some information wrong, but he’ll learn with God’s guidance. That is why is it so important to study your bible. I’m sure he wasn’t giving incorrect information on purpose he just hasn’t had the teachers I’ve been blessed to have throughout my years.
It rained more this week causing more flooding but not as bad as the weekend of the 4th.
My water softener quit working. I suspect longer than I realized but it wouldn’t discharge the water. I got the book and looked up You Tube videos and tackled cleaning filters and lines. I did get the thing to fill back UP with water but it wouldn’t discharge the water. Humph!! Posted on FB a request for a name of someone who worked on Softeners. Nothing! Nada!! I finally called a guy who I know has worked on water lines for my dad. He said he used to, and since it was a Sears water softener he wouldn’t. He suggested someone else, who I called and he said, no he wouldn’t work on Sears water softeners but knew someone who did and gave me the number. I was beginning to think I should just buy a new one but went ahead and called the number. I left a message and really didn’t expect a call back until the next day if ever. However he did call and he did work on Sears softeners and he was going to be in this area the next day. Long story short he came, he fixed, and told me I did good on the cleaning the filters that I did clean. It was plugged up in an area that I was afraid to venture into and the bill was less than $100. I was happy!! My soft water is back so my other appliances will hopefully last longer. I had worked that morning until the guy called and then took off to meet him here and since it didn’t take him but an hour J and I took time to go back to creek/river and fish. We didn’t even get a bite as the river had dropped and was trying to head back into its banks but we fished until it started raining again. Brother and his wife came down and we talked a good 45 minutes. Mostly about Dad. It was a good conversation. We both suspect that part of his health “issues” are a bit of drama for others, but oh well and I was relieved to know it wasn’t just me that suspected that dad “put on the ritz” when others (especially his brother) are looking.
This morning I went to see if the river was still up and it is but dropping quickly. I did throw out a line or two but was using artificial and not worms which may or not work. Not sure the fish are still even there as they may have drifted or made the journey back to the river. Not sure but I sure do love fishing off the slab as opposed to making my way down and then back up a river bank.
Time do get off my butt and do something like mow. Geeze the grass grows fast when you receive lots of rain!! May have to wait another hour or so to let it dry out but will check. Need to do some dishes and may boil some eggs and potatoes for potato salad.
Owen turned 8 yesterday and I have him part of his b’day present yesterday evening. He told his mom he was sure I had him a b’day present so he wanted to come and get it. lol We’ll have a little b’day party Sunday afternoon and I’ll give him the rest. His mom is going to surprise him in a couple of weeks and take him to a baseball game. He thinks he is just going to Bass Pro. He’ll be sooooo excited!!
Have a great weekend and God Bless
