It has been a most beautiful weekend. I went to the Swindon Food Show, with Greg whats-his-name from the telly. Actually I left before Greg whats-his-name came on, but we did buy pasta, chilli, sweets etc. I also ate Caribbean goat curry, and drank some pretty damn devastating traditional draught cider.

Also spend some time at the allotment yesterday. I went a bit pink in the sun. I picked 1kg of raspberries. I am intending to make jam tonight. I would have made jam yesterday had I not discovered when I got home that we don’t have a sieve. I will buy one on the way home tonight. I also need to buy a bike lock because I dropped mine in the road this morning and a tosser ran over it in his car before I could retrieve it.

Greece is in all sorts of trouble this morning. It looks like they are turning their backs on the Euro and upsetting just about everyone in the process. There seem to be a lot of newspaper opinion pieces forecasting the end of the Euro.

Lets talk about the naked rambler. I received a petition this morning asking for him to be released from prison. I thought about it for quite a long time before deciding to sign. I’ve always more or less supported his cause. I personally don’t see why people shouldn’t be able to take their clothes off whenever they feel like it. However, I also realise that it is not a universally accepted view, and I’ve rather lost sympathy for the man himself because he’s become antisocial in his battle for nudist rights. He’s also lost sight of his goal. He doesn’t seem to accept that a stalemate has been reached and there will be no winners.

I’ve come to the conclusion however that, although he is guilty of offending people, he hasn’t done anyone any serious harm. And in my view, offending people isn’t exactly wrong. Those youths who wear trousers hanging halfway down their arses offend me, but I don’t claim it’s wrong. The rambler is basically a harmless nutter. I don’t think he corrupts kids, or promotes sexual deviancy. There are many other far more prolific antisocial activities taking place in our streets every day which are just as offensive, and potentially more harmful. I don’t see people being handed ASBOs for using foul language in the street, yet this is something I come across every time I take my son into my local town centre. Thus I concluded that keeping him in prison is out of proportion and serves no purpose, and signed.
