Yesterday wasn’t so depressing after all. Fiancé came up for a while. She always cheers me up. I did a lot of reading in my book America’s Unwritten Constitution by Akil Reed Amar. I only have three more chapters to g o on that puppy. I will be glad to be done with that. I have another book lined up by the same author. I read it before but it wouldn’t hurt to read it a gain.,
I was thinking yesterday about my daughter. I have tried to reach out to her. I gave her my phone number and tried to start chats with here on Facebook. She did not want it. At some point you get tired of reaching out . It takes two after all to have a relationship. If one party doesn’t want it then there is no point in pushing it. It is time to move on and forgot about it.
Also, I can’t afford to let myself get upset and depressed. I can’t afford to let myself go down the tubes because of it. I have to take care of myself and my apartment. I have to live my life the best way I can. I will not let this bring me down or let it destroy me. I will carry one with my life.
Chatted with fiancé on Facebook. She is having trouble with one of her neighbors. This one neighbor who lives across the hall from her has some kind of mental problems. She yells and screams obscenities. The other night she was knocking on my fiancé’s door and all but accused her of breaking into her apartment and steeling things. Anyways fiancée wrote a letter about the incident and she is going to turn it into the office today. I hope they do something about this problem.
I went over my budget for the month of July. In this latest version I think I will have $20.77 left. I will have enough money to buy a book. I have my eye on a book called John Marshall: Definer of the Nation by Jean Edward Smith. No matter how broke I get I always seem to come up with some money to buy a book. Life can’t be that bad.
11:38am: have been busy this morning. First, I made a couple of phone calls.I called my pharmacy. I needed Dexilant and Geodon filled. I asked if there would be a charge and they said no. Good. Then I called my debit card company. I found out my balance on my card was $12.75 Then I bought a book from Barns and Noble. It was Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution for $6.99.
I have been reading my book America’s Unwritten Constitution: The Precedents and Principles we Live By by Akhil Reed Amar. I started rereading chapter 1o. This one is about political parties. I remember the author was saying that the framers of the Constitution did not foresee the rise of political parties. In the original document they provided for the election of President and Vice President. The man who received the highest number of votes from the Electoral College becomes President. The one with the second highest number of votes becomes Vice President
But soon two different political parties emerged . In the election of 1`796 Jefferson ran against John Adams. Jefferson got the second highest number of votes. He was elected vice president. This did not make for an easy relationship between Adams and Jefferson. Why would a president invite a man into his inner circle who was a potential rival for his job?
I was reading how the `12th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified to correct this different. The author was saying that under the 12th Amendment two ballots were offered one for President and one for Vice President. This amendment was designed by the new party the Democratic Republicans In effect it was recognized the existence of a two party system and helped the Democrats win most of the elections until 1860
Just taking a break from my reading going to have a smoke and get back to my book.
