Car park in Flaming June

So, my career not so much at a crossroads as… in a car park. Unless perhaps I chase the permanent jobs in events management. But do I really want to move to London? Don’t even ask the question. 1) I don’t. 2) I can’t. Freelance work comes in, from time to time, but not much lately. As for theatre, fuhgeddaboudit. I did a tour last year, the money was so low I wished I hadn’t stopped to work out my day rate. And yes, I have plenty of experience but I don’t think that’s seen as an advantage much. I think they want younger people. Younger than me. Certainly, out of the dozen or so jobs I applied for, all but one didn’t put me on their list for interview. I have to face it - I’m too old. I do have 30 years experience, but it looks like they’d rather have someone 20 years younger with 10 years or so under their belt. I don’t blame them. Certainly, on the tour of The Tempest, which we schlock around, loading and unloading the 4 tons of scenery, lighting and sound gear took its toll.
Of course, there are many, many people in a worse situation than I. I have enough money, a nice house, and my wife earns well enough. We don’t need much money.
But is this really it?
8 years ago I re-trained to become a language teacher. A struggle, in some ways. I don’t think I want to go through that again.
So. Is this it then?

Nothing back from the post office yet.

Drive a cab and you and I can write for the cabbie oriented website I am going to create once I figure out how to create a decent website.

I feel the same way about more training at this point, certainly more super expensive get oneself in debt training. Maybe you could write one of those novels on Twitter? I still think you should write and that would only be a short commitment every few days. But that is just me...
