we’re not gonna burn out
we’re not gonna fade away
we’re not gonna burn brightly
until the end of the night, we
aren’t gonna turn to salt or ash
at the breaking of the next day

we are gonna coast into the end
without a whole lotta money
but a phonebook fulla friends
someday we’re just gonna break
we’ll never ever find a way to bend
one day we’ll find ourselves on fumes
then we’re gonna coast into the end

we’re not gonna ride into the sunset
we’re not getting a parade, I’ll bet
we’re not going to blow it all skyhigh
we’re gonna slide on one last gasp and
then just sort of die

we are gonna coast into the end
it won’t make the news
it’s not gonna make facebook and trend
we’ll be on the run from those who’d lend
and we’re gonna coast into the end

in a forgotten generation
a used-up husk of a nation
jackals picking its bones
tired of hurrying back home
bubbles burst, we make like foam
only proof’s in someone else’s smartphone
now you don’t see us
now you won’t
we won’t blow up
we’re gonna just coast
