On this day, amongst the revelries of summer and the joys of cooking… we take pause to turn our hearts and minds to the fallen who have secured for us the freedoms and liberties we too often take for granted. No life lost in service should ever become political fodder; whether it was a regimental fighter for our Revolutionary War or a police officer killed while issuing a warrant. We reserve today in our calendar to guarantee the opportunity for all who live in our borders to take the time to remember the sacrifices that have brought us here; and to contemplate what sacrifices may be ahead of us. Many will honor their personal fallen with flags at grave sites today. Many will continue to place flags on those grave sites throughout the year or will display flags in their own home. And when the flag waves, it serves as a reminder of those who lost their lives to uphold freedom, security, and peace. To look with reverence at a flag is not religious patriotism; but respect for every life lost domestically and abroad. We can never repay the brave men and women who have fallen, but we must always honor their sacrifice. May we be a nation and a people deserving of that sacrifice.
Memorial Day today. It really stirs the reverential nature. While the above may not be brilliant; it is the sort of thing that has always made me wonder if I shouldn’t have tried to become a political speech writer.
My own day has been… nothing of significance. FINALLY got to take a super long shower to help me feel more like myself again. Ran a load of dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Ran a load of laundry. Surprisingly I even had time to play Destiny… I haven’t had the time to sit and play a video game like that in a while… but in retrospect, I honestly can’t figure out why.
My week looks, again, like a bizarre hard-to-understand conundrum of NOTHING. I have a “6 hour shift” tomorrow morning that will probably be from 8 am to 11:30 am. Then a 3 hour shift tomorrow afternoon that will be from 2 to 5. Then I don’t work again until a “3 hour shift” on Friday morning from 10 to Noon. Strangely, it isn’t even a monetary annoyance as much as it is a time-spent annoyance. Because… I understand that they are scheduling me less so that I can be free for interviews with Firms and the like but… no firms are calling back. So… it isn’t fun. Because I am trying to find an “adult job” that uses my Law Degree but… good God, the market still sucks hardcore. Glad to see that the entire 4th estate (which I still have seen no evidence suggesting it is NOT dead) has no idea on how to feel about the current “economic growth (?)” 1, 2, 3
With that said, however, I suppose that means this week I can do more working out, applying for jobs, video games, cooking… or in other words, spinning my wheels.
