I get to do amazing things.
Sometimes I complain and even when I can’t complain I complain anyway?
Because that’s who I am as a lapsed Catholic? A recovering Catholic?
My Catholicism’s in remission?
But I get to do amazing things
and that’s partly thanks to you
yes, you, because you read me or you listen.
Because of you I get to do amazing things sometimes
and I want to thank you.

I get to do amazing things!
I struggle to find steady work
and my love life has been nil for a while now
but I get to do amazing things.
I get to read for schools.
I get to write for puppets.
I get to bum a ride to Syracuse and slay my alma mater with a joke.
I get to be a published poet.
I get to do booked things in New York City again.
I get to be the comic at a burlesque show, for God’s sakes.
And I need to thank you!

I get to do amazing things.
I have endless troubles too
I live in my childhood bedroom again
I drive my dad’s Ford station wagon
the county pays for my health insurance
but goddamn it right now that’s all immaterial.
I get to do amazing things!

Right now I just want to thank you
for helping me with the amazing things.
You people are awesome.
You give me a path to be myself sometimes.
Oh God, I am thankful for that.
I get to do amazing things.
Thank you.
THANK YOU!
