Same-sex marriage bill introduced to parliament in Holy Shit!

I just finished watching Bill Shorten introduce his marriage equality bill to the Australian Federal Parliament this morning. It was a wonderful speech. Not just the bill itself, but with how deep he went into it, explaining why he’s introduced it and the struggles many same-sex attracted Aussies have had to deal with. It almost brought a tear to my eye.

It makes me smile that the Australian public did vote some decent MP’s with hearts into the current parliament. Some.

You’ll notice quite clearly at the start of this beautiful speech exactly how many LNP MP’s actually bothered to show up to hear this speech. I’m sure they had more important things to do such as cheating on their spouses whilst into their third committed marriages.
It actually makes me sick that the LNP is in charge of this country. ERGH!!!

Then there was some Australian Christian Lobbyist on national radio this morning talking about how the consequences of this bill passing will be “catastrophic” and rattled off a couple of amazing examples why. The one I particularly agreed with was all the “death threats” and “cake decorators will have to be re-educated.”

^Blinks^

Well then. How can I argue with that?!
I mean, I clearly won’t be marrying my future partner after finding out that consequence! :o

There’s just too many people out there that need a two-by-four to the face.

Absolutely ridiculous this pathetic ‘against’ argument is.

Our Prime Minister himself is still using every excuse in the book to palm this important issue in Australian history off, using the budget priority as his sideswipe each time.
Seriously, every single time he is asked questions about this bill introduced this morning, watch him try and steer the conversation away.

The only reason he isn’t being the complete cunt he used to be about it is because everyone knows he has a lesbian sister.

Yep, our country’s Prime Minister is against legalizing same-sex marriage even though he has a sister who has a female partner of 12 years.
How much of a vicious cunt can someone actually be?!

It’s no secret how passionate I’ve been about human rights from the time I started writing in 2004, and even well before that. I’ve obviously had my own experiences and journey into becoming who I am today and no, it certainly hasn’t been easy with the holier-than-thou Christian upbringing and blatantly homophobic father (who told me to my face when I was 12 that all “gays and lesbians should be thrown in a room and blown up.” I will never, ever forget my reaction at that age to that, even now. The one question that was in my little head was, “…but…why??” Who the fuck says something like that to a 12-year old?)
All I saw was all the pretty colours and streamers and outfits and pop/dance-music and smiling faces on the people on TV. People who had to go through a FUCKLOAD more bullshit and discrimination than I’ve ever had to.

And to think how that I’ve been to about 8 of those events.

And yes, I know I sound like a broken record, but that’s what activists do. The real activists get in front of microphones and they preach and voice their opinions until someone actually fucking listens. I just type shit that’s on my mind and when I’ve talking to a brick wall for 15+ years, it gets pretty frustrating, that’s for sure.

So as beautiful as the above speech was, the Greens (the political party I vote for) are saying the way this is being done is a mistake because it doesn’t have the required cross-party support.
Duh. That’s cos the majority of LNP MP’s are pathetic. Having said that, I do smile and respect those that have changed their views, and I feel it is betting better.
I mean, look at how many LNP MP’s were in that chamber. That explains everything. It simply explains we have a bunch of cowards representing the majority of our country. It literally makes me fucking ill.
I do agree with the Greens views. It’s true. The media are saying this will be adjourned indefinitely.

I just don’t understand that. How can something like this be adjourned indefinitely? Just sweep it under the rug like it never happened? Am I hearing this right? Indefinitely pretty much means forever, right?

But, me being me, I always look for the positive in most things in life. I do NOT want someone like Tony Abbott being responsible for when same-sex marriage is inevitably going to be recognized in this country.
I mean, how horrific would that be? To be a kid in the year (eg.) 2080 and opening up a history book and seeing the name ‘Abbott’ printed next to the passing of a bill in the year 2015/2016 responsible for improving basic equality and human rights.
I would much rather that go to a Greens PM (although that will never happen). Even Shorten would be okay, but even better would be the deputy opposition leader, Tanya Plibersek. That woman is a true gem in Aussie federal politics.
