Potatoes in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

Experiment time. Had some potatoes that are sprouting. Store bought but they have lots of “eyes”. Have been contemplating giving it a try and last night cut them in pieces and put some in a large flower pot/planter. I read it will only take them a week to start growing. Figured nothing to lose so why not try this year?

Will keep you updated on how they do.

Allergies are kicking my butt this week even with taking allergy meds. Woke up with a headache so that is not a good sign. Feeling a bit sluggish and that isn’t good at all as this is going to be a very busy weekend.

Spent some time on calculating my retirement pay yesterday. I was comparing Aug vs Jan. Jan won hands down. Blah. I can wait as planned, just don’t want to. lol

I will.

It is almost 5:15am so I need to wake up J.

God Bless and have a great day!!

Saw you on the front page, and thought your name seemed familiar. I think I used to read you on Open Diary.

Regarding your potato experiment: I once threw some withered potatoes into my compost heap and ended up with luxuriant potato vines all over the place. (Until the deer ate them.) Unless your potato pieces go bad (or you have deer), your success is almost guaranteed.

Glad you left me a note. Did you go by Kimber on OD?

I hope those potatoes make. I put some in my compost heap too so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I love growing things! So much fun! One of my friends gave me a purple Cherokee tomato last summer; I ate the tomato and saved the seeds. Now I have a purple Cherokee tomato plant in my garden! I'll bet your potatoes do just fine!

I remember secretly counting down the months, then the days until my retirement. I had it figured down to the day. I didn't tell ANYONE at work that I was retiring, except my best friend. Even my boss didn't know until my very last day. You see, I had also scheduled a two week vacation at the very end of my time there, so when I left for vacation that Friday, I was really leaving for good. No one saw that coming, and I loved it! I had so very little control over my work life, and I was determined to have control over my own retirement! Good luck to you.

Where I came from, that's how we got our potato seed every year... saved some from last year's crop for seed. No fancy engineering in those days. Just plain food.

I'm guessing I'm sure you will get some nice potatoes.

I have a vague memory of doing something similar with potatoes when I was a kid in school. Let us know.. 😊
