Back and Together in Everyday Ramblings

Practice makes for efficiency. We’ve been indulging in these twice yearly getaways to the Oregon coast now for long enough that we are getting pretty good at the whole logistical part of the enterprise. Today Most Honorable and I left for Portland a bit before noon and arrived two hours later to a couple of playful forgiving cats.

Since then they’ve been following me around full of curiosity and I am guessing a sense of relief.

Diego is curled up in a sleeping ball next to my hip as I type this.

I did need to stop trying to take notes for the little bit more challenging than normal class on digestion I am teaching tomorrow and play because he kept bapping the pencil out of my hand.

The cats have only been here five months but we are truly imprinted on each other and while we had a lovely relaxing little vacation I was ready to get home to them.

The ocean and the sky were very moody while we were there. This dramatic shot is from the afternoon we arrived. Yesterday it unexpectedly cleared up and got almost warm and there were many more folks than we are used to out there doing all the beach things people do.

Our big challenge was to find a public staircase this trip so yours truly could keep up her hard won aerobic capacity. We tried it on a very small staircase at the end of a ramp to the beach but it only took 4 seconds to get up it. It takes a lot of times 4 seconds to get two minutes of stair climbing in. I had dragged poor Kes along with me. She was a trooper.

Later that day she found me a reasonable amount of steps in a nearby location. The only drawback was that it was private. It belongs to a condo group and is for owners and guests and when I tried it yesterday for the full five minutes I was much disapproved of by a polite but firm owner…

Noko, your illicit stair climber.

I climbed them again this morning without incident. The view was pretty fabulous on those stairs as there were many dories on their way in and out and I was up above he launch spot near the nesting violet green swallows.

I slept well and enough and we ate good healthy food all of which we brought and I rested by not doing much of anything except a lot of beach walking for three days and I do feel better.

I sure could use some more time off work though.

Oh well.

I am looking forward to teaching tomorrow. All my vacationing students will be back and that is a good thing for my finances as well as an ambience of good cheer and enthusiasm.

Great picture.

Glad your R & R was so successful. (And, I am very impressed you even got your stair climbing in.)

The cats had the good sense to miss you, ear skritches to them.

How very subtle of Diego, bapping the pencil out of your hand! I love how they are so happy just to be together again. Getaways are so important to the state of our minds and our hearts. It sounds just perfect. I do love those lone big rocks of the Oregon coast, such presence and yet so aloof.

OooooOOooo, that picture.... and so glad it was a good get-away, even if it wasn't long enough.
