Still in the Stable in Everyday Ramblings

One of the cool things about a site like Prosebox is that I can post a messy picture like this. It is not a card worthy perfectly composed shot but instead is a vivid representation of vibrant human interaction with nature. I walk by these tulips everyday (usually in the early morning dark doing my stair challenge) and I can’t say I have ever been more attracted to a stand of flowers in my life.
I actually look forward to seeing them every day and am a little melancholy that they are beginning to fade.
Generally though I am both enjoying spring and am a bit down at the same time. A week out and I am still not feeling well. Although I still haven’t a clue of the cause at least I am getting a clear picture of the symptoms and am getting better at managing them. I was able to work from home today, which made that a lot easier.
I woke up at 4 AM after having a night sweat so intense my flannel top sheet was soaked all the way through. It is kind of like I am having a really bad monthly cycle that goes on and on and menopause all at once in one big extravaganza but my body has forgotten how and is struggling to adapt.
As pretty much everybody who reads here is female I think you might be able to imagine the malaise and discomfort.
I was thinking maybe like Merlin I am starting to live backwards in time but then Kes pointed out that if that were true I’d need to work another 40 years. Eek. If I had 40 years I would definitely get a professional degree and get the heck out of Dodge and away from Nimrod post haste. He is so clueless!
Now that I know this mystery episode is hormonal though I can do targeted yoga, take long warm baths, eat chocolate every few hours and keep a low profile. I was able to teach both my classes and other than Monday afternoon where I just slept have been able to work and get my basic chores done.
On Sunday I am going down to Salem to spend Easter with Kes, Most Honorable, Leo and Jack (Diego and Carlo’s cat cousins) and am very much looking forward to spending time with them all.
And next week will be chock full.
Oh, the fish and seafood class was fascinating. It was more like cooking entertainment than a class, two gorgeous young willowy dieticians, and ten “students” in a small teaching kitchen for new mothers and a spectacular view of the spring squalls moving across the river.
We watched as they chatted and made…
Smoked Salmon Spread
White Fish Ceviche
Mediterranean Tuna Salad (with garbanzo beans and no mayonnaise)
Seaweed Risotto (with barley instead of rice and with walnuts)
Shrimp Frittata with Mozzarella & Ricotta (This was so good!)
And… Lemon-Garlic Sardine Fettuccine
We ate it all. Yum. I didn’t even know what ceviche is (and certainly had never made it before) but now I do. The handouts are good and include a lot about safety and how to buy seafood as well as including all the recipes. I think I will try variations on them all. They used lots and lots of herbs and lemon.
Next month I am taking their class on cooking more obscure greens. Now I know what to expect I am sure I will have fun.
And fingers crossed I will feel better by then too.
