I think I’m going to have to jump ship on my mom group workout/weight loss side-group.
Someone posted that they were stuck in a weight plateau. This lady is the same height as I am, and same weight, and she looks great (we have very different body types. She’s more proportional than I am). She was upset about it. I mentioned that I’ve lost motivation to work out everyday because I’m pretty okay with my body. She said that being okay with her body makes her want to lose weight more and think “just how good” she will look when she loses 10 more pounds.
I think this is a completely unhealthy mentality. I used to suffer from BDD/disordered eating and this is the EXACT kind of thinking that I had.
I didn’t say anything, but I’m really upset for her, and the other lady who is not happy with her weight because it’s two pounds from her goal weight, which is.... well, super skinny.
Why does a number on a scale matter so much? I’m so sad that they are letting an arbitrary number rule their body image. I wish I could shake them and say “YOU LOOK GREAT. EMBRACE IT. YOU ARE AWESOME. IT’S JUST A NUMBER.”
Alas, I cannot.
I like to surround myself with like-minded people. It triggers my body image issues when things like this are posted.
Sigh. I guess I’ll go click “leave group.”
