I wasn’t intending to start a debate here, I’m just linking to an additional help resource.
Here’s a really nice explanation/tutorial for Markdown, written by the fine folks at Ghost (a blogging platform):

Thank you. I will check it out.
I would think that your audience learned to use the tool by now and have better things to complain about.

Coolio.
moneypenny ⋅ April 02, 2015
I just keep using HTML.
simple mind moneypenny ⋅ April 02, 2015
But that's more typing, moneypenny.
(I totally heard that sentence in my head using Sean Connery's Bond voice)

Me tooooo, but only because it seems like every situation I want to use italics or bold janks it up. Like I guess I can't use the asterisks directly next to any other punctuation, or something?
IN ANY CASE i'ma read this here guide thing n lern mahself, thanks brah

So did I!

The linked guide you posted is really very good. I also liked the explanation of why writers prefer it - it does make a lot of sense not to have to interrupt your flow of typing.
ermentrude ⋅ April 02, 2015
It changed..?
When?
Bwah ha ha
TellTaleHeart ⋅ April 02, 2015
Ooh, thank you!
I still use HTML about half the time, simply because I have it memorized. I just need to work on memorizing the Markdown tags, I guess. :)

Thank you sir.

As I've learned, unless something is truly broken, complaining is pointless because the site owners are going to do what they want to do no matter what. Try complaining to Facebook and see how far it gets you.

Well, yeah, except this place is run by one guy who has listened to suggestions in the past and acted on them, whereas Facebook is an evil corporation of evil.

So very true!

I just write and save and on occasion add pictures. I'm good!

I missed the coding civil war?

I just type if I wanna get fancy and post other things or such I figure it out eventually. Love how it is now my mobile devices have no problem navigating and doing what I wanna do on the site

I read 'markdown' and think 'sale'. PB sale? Mmm peanut butter. What about peanut allergies? Oh well, can't make everyone happy. ;)

What some folks seem to be forgetting (or perhaps simply not understanding) is that running a site like this takes effort. A great deal of it. And in case some folks aren't in the know, Mr. Mind has a full time job that actually, you know, makes him money, as well as a family he spends time with. ODers may remember that the Diary Master literally had a dozen people who volunteered their time and effort into helping him run the site, so if you've got a squirrel down your pants about how your specific complaint about the site editor "fell on deaf ears," then I think you might need to cut a bit of slack. Having to support multiple editing tools is a logistical nightmare, so I hardly think Mr. Mind can be blamed for attempting to streamline.
If you don't like Markdown then you have every right to voice your opinion, but this is a free site, and one of many options available that provide an online journaling experience. If you don't like it, then you have the choice to go somewhere else, no harm, no foul. But let's not act like just because the site owner fails to incorporate YOUR PARTICULAR PREFERRED EDITOR, that he's somehow a terrible person. Let's keep it in perspective shall we?

I loved this reminder:

I admit I haven't done anything fancy in my rare and sporadic entries here, but I've found it really easy to do the small amount of formatting I need. And that linked article is extremely helpful. But... am I missing something? Can you not just use HTML if you'd rather use HTML?? I personally think Markdown is much easier than trying to remember HTML code, but it sounds like if you'd rather type out HTML you can do that. SO, not quite getting the bitter complaints about Markdown.

When can we load an app for the site on cell phones and tabs?
Lepetit pumpkinesque ⋅ May 19, 2015
hey- silly question maybe but, suddenly I cannot stay logged in? Every time I close my computer or my phone (not even x out of the browser, but just leave it for more than a few minutes) it suddenly needs for me to sign in again, even though I have clicked 'remember me', any suggestions?
simple mind Lepetit pumpkinesque ⋅ May 19, 2015
The session is based on a cookie in the browser, so maybe you have something periodically cleaning out your browser cookies?

It just started this past week and it is on both my mobile phone and my laptop that is brand new, could it still be that?
