Wow. That cooking experience took far longer than expected and was far too dramatic to not get its own entry!
First… I rarely make proper food. It is naughty of me because my wife and I should really be eating healthier but… I am starting to come around to the idea that she is just as capable (if not more so) to prepare food. She’s cooked steaks twice within the last month… didn’t take much work, didn’t destroy the kitchen, tasted great. EVERY recipe I try is questionable at best, takes every pan in the kitchen and makes such a mess that my wife actually keeps a list of foods I am not allowed to make until we get a bigger kitchen. Now, in her defense… our kitchen is tiny. Most of our apartment is. Our kitchen has room enough for a stove, fridge, and sink… pretty much. Anyway, you’ll see it later here.
The recipe I wanted to try comes from a cook book that I routinely forget how much I hate. On the cover is this imperiously belittling comment that says So Easy A Man Could Do It! The recipe lists are deceptive as well. They say they make it easy by having pictures of the ingredients… the recipe I was trying? Picture of the Chicken, picture of the broccoli, picture of the Cheddar dip. NOT pictured? The rice, the gravy, the salt, the pepper, onions, the flour… more ingredients not pictured than actually were pictured! Then… and this is my favorite part… as I’m going down the recipe, it says “After the broccoli is cooked, dump in the Gravy/Cheddar mixture.” Wait… say again? I looked over the recipe several times to see and nope… at no time was there a mention of cooking or combining the gravy or cheddar. Stupid… lazy… dumb… miserable cook book!
Anyway… it took me over two hours! Aaaaaand… I destroyed the kitchen.
At least here is what it looked like:
I actually haven’t eaten it yet. I know how clean my wife likes the kitchen, so I did that first before eating anything. But… I’m at least hoping it doesn’t make me sick.
