Jim buys train magazines. Well it works like this. We are at the big city grocery store and he puts a magazine in the cart. It’s pricey. But I’m a good mom and I buy it for him. Kind of like when he was five and he wanted comic books at Me Too in Cedar Rapids. Kind of a ‘how you gonna say no’ kind a thing.

The magazines are on slick heavy paper and they have beautiful photography and a lot of history and geography. They are about real and necessary things. They publish old pictures.

Sometimes the old photographers will say they regret not taking more pictures with people in them. When a pictures gets to be twenty or forty or sixty years old, we want to see what the people looked like.

I get that. I don’t take a lot of pictures of people. They are harder work. There is the consent factor. There is the will the person be happy with the results factor. There is the ‘you put that on the internet???!!’ factor.

But sometimes there are pictures with people in them.
