No one has mentioned the missing weather info. In spite of that, here it is. At 4 am, temp 36, wind 2 mph from the SE, humidity 74%. Our snow is mostly gone, we now have mud, which is to be expected.

Just thinking of the huge heat sink, the frozen Mississippi is. Thinking of all the warmth it will absorb as it thaws.

I saw the sun shining on the brilliant white of a bald eagle on my way home yesterday. It was circling over a hill west of Volney.

It’s been in the news this week that the third of last year’s Decorah baby eagles was found dead in SE Iowa. It had been electrocuted on a power pole. All three are dead now. Think of the effort the parents went through to raise them. I can still see the last young eagle in the nest last summer, after the other two had left. He or she looked very lonely and maybe a bit scared. Later I would go back to the web site and look at the empty nest. What a true figure of speech. What time does to us. How hard life can be. And how we continue to endure.
