Bad news. in A small but passable life.

My sis called a couple of days ago. She had been feeling puny for weeks and had went to a herbalist and then a doctor. The prognosis was kidney infection and something going on with adrenal glands and maybe thyroid gland. Well, she finally went to an oncologist. The preliminary diagnosis is now cervical cancer. Mom spent the rest of that day calling everybody while on the verge of tears. A very crappy day. We have no idea what stage or what the treatment will be. Sis did sign up for the ACA so we’ll see how that works out.

My sister has three kids and three grandkids.

I’m home alone tonight. I drove Mom to the activity center a little before six this morning to board one of three tour buses headed to Laughlin, NV for an Oak Ridge Boys concert. She’ll be back tomorrow evening sometime. Yep, I’ll be hosting the Rummikub tomorrow evening.

I’ve been cleaning out the frig, eating and throwing away leftovers. I didn’t go to the pool today. After additional sleeping until 10am I took my book out onto the patio to read the rest of the day. Nice.

I plan on sleeping in for a bit in the morning. I haven’t slept past 8:30am since I’ve been here. Not counting this morning. I think I deserve at least one more morning of decadence. Yeah.

Since I’ll be making coffee solo in the morning I’m going to use the French press. I’ve never used it because ever since I bought it someone has made coffee in the morning. So I’ll try it out. Mom doesn’t have a tea kettle so I’ll just heat water up in a saucepan. One cup at a time I guess. I don’t think there’s a thermos or a carafe here. I’ll make it work.

Two weeks and three days until I fly out of here. Two weeks after that I should be hiking out into the forest. I’m ready to get away from the TV and the internet. I’m ready to get caught up on my sleep. I’m ready to get moving. I stepped on the scale this evening. Ridiculous. It’s time for some serious hiking and fasting.

And the tan is coming along nicely, naturally. I think the winter desert sun does a better job than the tanning bed did. I’m starting to look like a piece of beef jerky. A fat piece of jerky. Ridiculous indeed.
