Quizzing history with nuts in blackpropaganda

At last - a nice bright morning - it looks like it is one for going for a walk - SW… is happy since for the first time since the beginning of December she can play some holes of golf with her friends - and I’m happy because I have the morning to myself.
Last night we took part in a charity quiz night - making up a team of 6 with friends - and hoping to repeat the success of a few weeks ago where the team we were in came second. Well, it did not work out like that. I hate those rounds where you have ten pictures of people which you must identify - and the name is on the tip of your tongue - or they look nothing like you think they should. Our mistake was to leave our joke, which doubled our score until the last round on General Knowledge - we had got high scores on others - and that was not great. How many legs does a lobster have? (8 apparently) Anyway, there was no way we were going to win - but it certainly brings out our competitive nature.
I am glad to say one of the couples in our team, who actually paid for the whole six of us, won a raffle prize for a voucher to a local business which covered the cost of the evening for them!
Actually the prize we took when we came second in the earlier quiz was a voucher at a local hotel for a three course Sunday lunch - so we are going to use that tomorrow - looks like we should have a roast meal for a change! Who said Christmas was over?
I see everyone is rushing to Saudi Arabia after the death of the old king so that they can show how much they love the monarchy there (and the oil and Saudi support against ISIS). Please ignore the human rights issues they are doing their best!
And today, 50 years ago, Winston Churchill died. We are having a Churchill fest on tv over the next week - and it is unlikely we shall follow the Basil Fawlty dictum - ‘Don’t mention the war’. Beware of the kind of over the top stuff which does no justice to the real contribution of WSC to British history. Also remember the hatred of many people in Britain towards him because of his attacks on the working class and outmoded attitudes towards Empire. It is worth pointing out that in 1945 the British electorate, made of of many whom had fought the war and suffered in the Depression, said ‘Thank you Mr Churchill!’ and voted for Labour and a new society.
Here endeth the history lesson.
And here is a great Elvgren pic of a young woman holding some nuts - my, isn’t that a nice bush
