Off to the city yesterday on my own. SW…decided she needed to stick around home to do things and had no real reason for going anywhere else - so I was away for the early train (having scraped the car windscreen) before going to the station) - and had a nice time after my appointment at the foot clinic.
As you may know I do like having a young woman in a white coat working on my feet - and getting them into shape. Having the same podiatrist every time means she knows my feet well - and can comment on how they are doing - especially after I got the supports for my heels on my last visit. When I leave I walk on air - although I would have liked her to massage them a little more.......
Then off to the bookshops - a visit to one of the museums which has an exhibition of First World War propaganda posters - I took a lot of pictures since I am giving a talk to one of the local groups in a few weeks on the topic, and there were some there I had not seen before.
Then to Marks and Spencer with the request to find something for tea - and they had their Dinner for Two for £10 - which includes a bottle of wine. I had to buy and insulated bag to bring them home - but selected Mediterranean Sea Bass, Rosemary Potatoes and Apple Pie - with a bottle of Italian white. Really good stuff which we enjoyed last night.
Then home - and last night the first part of Wolf Hall on BBC1. There will be a lot of chat about this adaptation of the Booker Prize novel but I thought it was great - the tremendous use of different light, wonderful acting and an intelligent script. When 65 minutes goes quickly then you know it is OK.
Before that we reached the last disc of the first series of House of Cards which we started in Spain - I love really amoral stuff like that - and you don’t often see a woman being eaten out on the tv - nice one Kevin!
Just a comment about the death of Anne Kirkbride, who was in Coronation Street for over 40 years and in the soap married four times, had love affairs - and was the kind of strong female type that soaps thrive on. Great waves of sympathy because lots of people (women) were drawn to her character - so that the actress and the character became one. Taken by cancer at 60 - much too young.
Anyway - thinking of tv
