In the first hour of Christmas Eve.

Some how it doesn’t feel like Christmas Day is just twenty four hours away, I have just one card to write and a few small gifts to wrap, half of the vacuuming is dun, but jobs seem to multiply on Christmas Eve!

Our weather forecast for Christmas Eve and Day are dry, perhaps we will get to the Beach on the day with Lola, it all how is cooking Christmas Lunch! I’m not sure what we are having at lunch, there was talk of beef this year, I like turkey but we have had that most years; so there is one surprise for Christmas.

Through the 60’s and 70’s I used to wrap gifts in coloured foil papers with ribbon, I wanted to get away from cheep paper with Christmas Trees or holly with red burry’s, it was my late Mar-in-law who enjoyed my efforts. This year I seemed to have gone back thirty odd years!

This year it is paper with Christmas trees, Holly and some gold paper with undecorated trees, I the latter must be somewhere between foil papers and what ever people have used recently; for some resign I have regressed to my early Christmas’s.

Wrap.
Looking back to the festive design of fifty years ago!

Tea or dinner, which ever was nice tonight, red rice with roast vegetables and a little cheese; I enjoyed it. I sat at the table in the lounge, Lola on the settee and Ziggy on the floor by me, now the aerial has been fixed we can enjoy live television again, tonight I watched ‘The Snowman’

‘The Snowman’ was made for the then new channel ‘Channel 4 TV’ It is a twenty six minute animated film with out any speech, excepting the ‘Walking in the Air’ song, the animation looks like pencil drown, it has been shown on Channel 4 every Christmas since 1982; and I have enjoyed it every year.

The Christmas shown looks much like the Christmas’s I remember in the 50’s and the early 60’s; a different world from these Christmas’s! I also like the music and the films one song ‘Walking in the Air’ all composed by Howard Blake.

Christmas Eve – Morning.

The start of Christmas Eve has been dry and some blue sky, the sunshine near filled the valley but stopped just short of us across the road. I’ve been down to Perranporth for a few last items, it was odd in the Co-op as one moment it seemed quiet, then you couldn’t move, I passed the tills with just one person paying, a few minutes after with my list ticked off I joined the row of people ready to pay.

One young women looked as if she would a busy day, six or seven rolls of wrapping paper hanging under her arm, I still have a few small things; well - it is Christmas …..

Evening.

The work is dun, no I’m wrong Sweetheart has found that overlooked one last gift, but most every thing is done, I’m showered a dressed ready for the day. Our Daughter had made us a curry on Monday, so it warmed once more and served with rice.

Thankfully things broken are repaired or replaced, the aerial people came and walked about the roof as they do, they replaced the amp on the chimney and the power unit behind the television an the signals are fine. As for the top half of the tree we find a set of lights we hadn’t used, so our Christmas Tree is light from floor to top.

Soon we shall have Mulled Wine, Daughter and I have been to Koln for the Christmas Markets three years in a row, a mug of hot Glühwein on a cold night was very warming. I would like to go again but one’s seems interested, I live in hope. When I started up the iMac there was a report of people seeing the northern lights, I’ve been out but I couldn’t see any southern lights; I shall have another look latter!

I shall finish with a Christmas Card I made about fifteen years ago, quite a few people at the university made their own Christmas Cards, my room mate Terry always made his cards, often about the day he was handing them out. Back then we had Daisy and Lucky. Daisy was our first Beardy and about two then, Lucky the little helper was the second Westie and seven years of age.

D.

So I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happiness through the New Year.

L.
