Summer rain in Stuff

Ohhh I looove Brisbane Summers. Specifically, the storms they bring. They have arrived a little earlier than usual this year, so to have one hit the city a few hours after I woke today was a really nice surprise.
I just opened up the back doors so I could listen to the rain poor down and the thunder rumble. I’ve lived in Brisbane for 12 years now, and every single year, the storms still make me excited.
It’s a bit different to the storms back on the farm, where you could smell it coming. In the city, I can only somewhat smell it. I read recently what actually creates the smell of rain, and it’s the molecules in the ground apparently, or something like that.
I didn’t realize how much havoc the storm today caused however, until I turned the TV on and there were flash floods in low-lying areas and lightning strikes everywhere.
I did quite like this pic.
The highways were chaos, obviously. I’m kind of glad I didn’t get called into work, as I would’ve gotten drenched. I did however get a text from my boss asking if I can work tomorrow instead, a full-shift, so that kinda worked out well. I’ll enjoy doing that, having actually had two consecutive nights off, which rarely happens.
Then, irony, when the TV program segment begins talking about how employees are paying their bosses $10,000 every year, due to the amount of unpaid overtime they do.
Just really makes me think, with how big I’ve always been on the ‘life’ side of the work/life balance.
Still looking at job ads most days, looking for ones that stick out to me and might work well enough for me to make a change, maybe learn new things. It’s hard to consider a new industry though without relevant experience, as has been the case throughout time I guess. One of my workmates has always said I should consider hospitality, but I’ve always avoided it, as I figure it’s probably one step worse than retail HA. He reckons the friends you make through it are priceless though. I guess you win some, you lose some.
I then saw a little bit of this Aboriginal TV series here called ‘First Contact’ which was pretty eye-opening. I spent most of the time wondering why the ‘white’ Aussie was being such a bitch, considering she was in their culture. She was complaining that she’d wake up sick because there was mould on the walls etc etc. They were nothing but kind to her and the other people visiting and offering up space in their homes for them to stay. I only saw a bit of one episode though before SBS Demand decided to stuff up. I haven’t been able to get IView to work at all, but Demand decided to briefly enough for me to watch that. I then realised the same show was playing on TV anyway, just a later episode, and my opinion of that ‘bitch’ changed a little when I’d seen she’d loosened up her opinion a bit on what she thought of Aboriginals.
Then I went and hung out with Vish for a bit, since he leaves in two days. Originally he snubbed me and didn’t want to hang out, then later on he rings me changing his mind. I was so annoyed at him.
Anyway, I used his wifi to update to Android Lollipop on my phone. It’s not really that different, just looks a bit more snazzy.
