Pallas Athena
wisdom and defense
talons cut her shoulder
bleed down her gleaming breast
steel eyes lost in thought
set in marble flesh
if only I could know her
not as on museum stand
as woman is known by man
sadly I have no offering
deserving of her glory
just a sack of stories
for oh
I’m no Apollo
at best I am Hephaestus
hunched over in caves
hammering out meanings
struggling with my feelings
for the goddess wisdom
and the mettle in her gaze
