Bluegirls come in every size
Some are wise and some otherwise
They’ve got pretty blue eyes…”
The slow drum of the end of the group I’ve been working with for two years has started. We had the farewell breakfast for Jerry. They brought the other half of our group that works a completely different effort from us in so it was a little bit awkward.
Steve, our new manager mentioned to the four of us who are retiring in the next three months that he had a point of contact that was interested in finding people who had experience in using open plan professional, to hire them as consultants.
That is actually something I might consider. I have been thinking that it seems a waste to spend 2 years learning a system only to just stop.
But the truth of the matter is I am far from an expert in open plan professional. There’s a lot of functionality in that program that I have never used. But. I have three months. If I download tutorials and reference material and in my slow times at work spend it all becoming a true expert, spending a few hours a month as a consultant doesn’t sound like a bad plan for retirement.
I’d be lying through my teeth if I didn’t tell you that I was looking forward to retiring. The absurd energy that I had in my younger days is long gone, as is the ridiculous immune system I once had. Now it seems I get sick if anybody sick crosses my path. Not looking forward to the next 20 years, but I suppose it’s better than the alternative.
Not really looking forward to the big dirt nap.
Only a little more than a month till Mancub and Grandcub come up to visit. It’s only a few days, but I hope we manage to have some fun. I don’t have every minute of the time they’re here scheduled, but I do have a few things in mind. And of course, my son needs to see his grandparents. They are in their 80s now and as I remind him regularly, they’re not going to last forever. It would be sad if they passed away and he never saw them. It has been 12 years since they’ve been up here. Ever since they moved to Texas visits are logistically much more difficult.
Interestingly enough, I almost have my work from Home Office set up exactly how I would like it. The only thing I lacked was a really good chair. And I was looking into those X-chairs before getting sick the last time and abruptly deciding I would retire.
I guess I’m glad I didn’t spend a crazy amount of money buying an X-chair.
The work from Home Office will end up being my DCS cockpit. Already planning on 6 27-inch curved monitors and a Logitech HOTAS system. Might need to upgrade my computer.
For a couple grand I can have a pretty sweet setup up there.
Taking tomorrow afternoon off and going down to the Maine Mall to go to Best Buy to replace my 6-year-old iPhone and iPad. Then continuing to Scarborough to buy a new couch to replace the 25-year-old couch that currently resides in my living room. With any luck Big Bob’s discount furniture will haul away my old couch, but if not the second Monday of May is bulk trash day in my neighborhood.
And I do know that they haul away furniture.
More on travel plans, when I more fully develop travel plans.
