Day 94 - Craving All The Sparkles in These Foolish Things

Kinda digging my new morning routine - the one where I drink my protein coffee before working out.
The thing is, I won’t be able to do this routine when I get my amazing new job and have to work a hybrid office schedule (this is me manifesting), but it’s good for now because I will sit at my desk and do early, early emails and other work while I sip my coffee, and then workout at like 8:30 for a whole hour and be back at my desk by 10:00am my time, which is 8:00am on the West Coast, which is the “real” start of the business day.
ENOUGH about work for now. It’s just so annoying to think about.
Except, I was requesting Sick/Medical Days for my upcoming doc appointments (I stack them because I have to travel back to [former city] to see my medical team for a range of tests and check-ups), and I figured out that I have 21 vacation days that I need to take before I quit this motherfucking job (plus 5 more sick days!).
Gotta get on that vacation stick! If I can find a good sitter who will be good for Martini for several days, I may figure out a nice overseas trip for my birthday this year. Gotta do this before other countries stop letting Americans come visit!
I also have two brunches I’d like to schedule for the month of April: one with my friends in [former city] since my April doc appointments straddle Easter weekend (Friday appointments and Monday appointments all day!) which will give me a whole Saturday in town with friends and then I can visit Mom and Dad for Easter Sunday. Perfect!
And then a second one for my current city peeps. I’ve started this brunch club all by myself (no co-host…miss you so much, [Athena]!!), and it’s been fun so far, but definitely disappointing.
Did I write about this? I can’t remember [update - yes, I did…but it’s clearly a thing with me]: My current city does NOT like to dress for brunch. I mean, brunch is the time where you can get a little fancy and CREATIVE with your wardrobe! Brunch was MADE for getting dressed and being among your fellow fashion-loving friends! Brunch is about sparkling, if only this one day a month! Yes, sparkling and lingering with your chosen family and just getting everything out. Non-stop chatter with friends and food and fashion! Isn’t that what brunch is to YOU?!
So, I’ve found this great party invitation app. Everyone seems to be using it now. It’s called Partiful. Have you been using this? It’s a super easy way to create fun invites to parties or events. You can add themes and graphics and get really creative with it. And then it will text the invite with all of the details to all of your list. Easy! I used it for my last brunch here. It was March. It was right after St. Patrick’s day, so I used a St. Patrick’s Day themed graphic, there were animated shamrocks floating throughout the whole invite, the RSVP was Irish-themed, AND I specified to all of the invitees to “WEAR YOUR GREEN!!!”
And exactly NONE of them did! So I was sitting there with my proverbial SHAMROCK in my hands. The ONLY person dressed all in green like a frickin’ fancy leprechaun.
Not only that, they came dressed in t-shirts, workout leggings, and sneakers…and NOT the fashionable kinds! 🤣
I know, I know. This sounds so ridiculous and snobbish. Don’t get me wrong, I still had a wonderful time at brunch and I’m growing to really love these ladies. But this town is NOT made for fancy-pantsin’ like my previous location.
And I want to FANCY-PANTS! I miss getting dressed and twirling around in a pretty dress! This town was not made like that AT ALL! This town is the exact opposite - it’s gritty and messy and essentially a tomboy of a town. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just a different vibe.
So I’m excited to plan a brunch for my former fancies this month.
Okay. Everyone is Slacking now (and I don’t mean slacking off, I mean there’s tons of chatter on Slack at my workplace right now), and I haven’t even done my workout yet. I better get moving.
Here’s to fancy brunches in my future (yes, I’m a little obsessed. This is what happens when your social life is super, super slow and you crave human interaction - what is my deal??)!
xox,
GS

I agree with you about dressing up. Thankfully NYC almost uniformly dresses for brunch/dinners. In fact there was just a huge news story here on our local news bout how if you want to get into any hot restaurants/bars you do NOT wear a hoodie.

Oh YES! Brunch is a New York City institution! I would come back to NYC just to go to brunch one day!! With all of my time off, maybe I'll do just that!

The opportunity of overseas trips is great!

I hope you find a sitter for Martini. Travel while you can! Though receptions for Americans might be more tempered.
You sound like a fun person.

I’m with you. Brunch is for dressing fun. I love me some sparkles.

My city has a reputation for slovenliness, and there are certainly areas that take that to heart! I am with you, though. I like to dress up. I am no fashionista, but when I go out to eat or go to a theatre show, I bring my A game. It adds to the experience!

Ha! Yeah, I do understand the hungover slouch-dressing for the hungover brunch crowd, but...it's just so nice to be fresh and squeaky clean and sparkly for this kind of brunch.

The scurge of athletic wear, it's even started to creep into my office!

I felt that in Montreal when I visited, lots of fancy pantsing all over the place, no matter what day. It was lovely. I felt underdressed everywhere but enjoyed sightseeing and taking stock of the current fashion.
The closest fancy place to me is Saskatoon and even then it's not overly fancy, just slightly moreso than Regina. Probably Calgary would be a lot more fancy but even then I don't know, one would have to go to the right places to see it.
