Entry 79: In Which I Sound Like A Jerk in Much Ado About Nothing

I have started a fairly acceptable conversation with a person on Hinge. So far, we’ve only talked about D&D, Pathfinder, and video games. I haven’t figured out how to go beyond this yet… the individual lives in the same town as my brother, appears to be a Professor at the college there, and their bio was essentially “I am a huge sci fi nerd. Love D&D and video games.” Which… yeah, that’s a big hello, I would like to meet you indicator for me. But of course, I’m not sure how to go from “Hey, we’re talking about video games” to something more. And if I may interject something that should put me in horrendous light with all of you? Considering Iowa’s current political climate, I fully anticipate and expect all trans individuals to scrub the T identifier from everything. Because that just puts a giant target on their back. If they pass, why risk it? Add this information with the fact that I legitimately see more Poly people and Trans people on dating sites than I do in a year walking around… and that’s even considering my deep involvement in the theater community.... well, that preamble to essentially build to… I’m not sure in this case. Granted, it may not matter long term. If I can’t figure out how to keep the conversation going or where to turn it to next; oh well. But the pictures shared? The person is feminine presenting. Looks tall-ish, sturdily built, face close up has the indicators of a slight upper lip mustache- but I am aware women can have facial hair issues- especially from certain parts of the world. And this is probably just my paranoia, but as a general rule- paranoia for me is earned in many respects. So, this is another interesting if unfortunate hurdle. NOTE: I am not saying “Oh, I would never date a Trans person for any reason!” I’m not saying that. I am saying that I am trying to find a partner that I can have kids with. And if that makes me a bigot, I’m sorry- but I’ll just have to learn to deal with that. I’ll tell you what I told Victoria a few years back: I’m not giving up on the hope of having children that are biologically mine. Wanting that doesn’t necessarily invalidate and demean adoption; I simply want to.... have kids that are mine by blood and body. Which also isn’t “bigotry against Trans” but a factor in choosing on dating apps - when a woman says “DO NOT WANT KIDS”, I’m not going to select that woman. I can’t believe we live in an era where I might have to justify how “wanting kids” isn’t discriminatory, but we’re here. So… I’ll be honest… that’s kind of a running concern/curiosity in the back of my head. For this specific case and honestly; generally. This low hum of always being on guard because of the various possibilities through online matches. This person could be like Jordan’s now ex-wife. Managing her Bi-Polar until she got married and then bam refusing medication, treatment, threatening his life and career. I’ve… done the “S.O. threatens my life” and would rather avoid that in the future. Plus the desire to avoid a person I am actively prosecuting or have recently prosecuted or even our office is prosecuting a family member! Though, I will admit that I have eased up on the Marijuana issue. I’ll accept “sometimes”.... because if I’m being honest? WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HERMIA everyone I’ve been intimate with actively used marijuana during our time together. So… I’m being a little bit more… realistic there and owning the fact that “my type” likely has overlap with the Cannabis set. But always trying to cautiously gauge interactions online. Hell, I grew up in the era of AOL Chat Rooms; do not cite the deep magic to me, I was there when it was written!

So that’s… more information than you might care to know there. Work today had two interesting “return” people/issues.
The person who was completely randomly violent with two total strangers? Couldn’t have her trial. She freaked out and shattered a door- shattered it. So, she was arrested and charged with an Aggravated Misdemeanor which is above my pay grade! She was back this morning being arraigned for that charge.
The other? ::visible shudder:: You all know that I hate Sovereign Citizens. COMPLETELY despise them! It is an entire group of people that have somehow convinced themselves rules don’t apply to them and are willing to risk everyone’s life and safety to live that obvious fiction. What kills me about this is how SOVCIT doesn’t stand up to a single ounce of legal scrutiny. LET’S SAY that I stipulate to their sovereignty. I’m not; but let’s pretend that I agree with them that they are not Citizens of the United States and are their own Regent. WITHOUT sufficient diplomatic ties to the Home Government.... if you are visiting a foreign land, YOU ARE STILL BOUND BY THEIR LAWS! I can’t go to Japan and start robbing people because I’m not a Japanese Citizen. ANY AND ALL PERSONS WITHIN A COUNTRY ARE BOUND BY THE LAWS OF THAT COUNTRY. That’s how the law is written and should work. Granted, I accept that our current law does have two systems of justice and the wealthy get to make their own rules; I don’t like it, but that doesn’t mean that changes the law, just that the wealthy have the resources to bail themselves out. Now, the “legal” argument to this from SOVCITs is that “If I travel to another country, I am availing myself of their laws. I never availed myself of the laws of the United States. You’re just trying to force those on me.” YOU ARE WITHIN THE BORDERS OF THIS COUNTRY AND ARE THEREFORE BOUND BY THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY! So, these people.... at a word, piss me off.
We have a returning one. This is the one that, when first encountered, had NO license plate, NO registration, NO insurance, NO driver’s license, fled from police, and had to have her window SMASHED OUT. Twelve hours after this, she’s calling my office, harassing my staff, demanding to speak with me because she “doesn’t understand these charges! They can’t charge me with illegal charges like this! I demand to speak to the person who will dismiss this injustice!!” Fuck off, I’m not dismissing it, I wish I could throw you in jail over it! She then had a hearing with the judge, where she screamed “THIS COURT HAS NO JURISDICTION” which means it got set for March 28th for a “Jurisdictional Hearing. Literally a hearing where the State has to establish that the alleged crime (I don’t have to prove the crime at all here) happened within the confines of our geographic area and that the crime as alleged is considered a criminal matter under the laws of Iowa. This is a common bullshit tactic from SOVCITS because they have this absolutely bullshit belief that since Traffic Tickets don’t have Jail Sentences, they aren’t criminal- they are civil, and must therefore be removed from any and all criminal proceedings. Which to make it make sense in layman’s terms: Is like saying that faucet water isn’t actually water because it doesn’t come directly from a stream, river, or ocean- so that faucet water should be considered the same as dish soap. If you give it ZERO serious thought… it could almost make sense. But having a reading level above 10th Grade and understanding Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and relying upon the experience of every Criminal Attorney and Criminal Judge over the last 250 years… it is very well established fact that a Traffic Ticket is considered a Criminal Offense. So… gofuckyourself. Well… not pleased with her first experience… this lady did all of it again recently. And that’s why she was in the Courthouse this morning. ONCE AGAIN NO license plate, NO registration, NO insurance, NO driver’s license, fled from police, and had to have her window SMASHED OUT! Because she “firmly believes” that she is not “bound to the laws of Iowa nor the United States” and is therefore not required to stop when police attempt to pull her over. After all, SOVCIT bullshit preaches, no government entity may interfere with your right to travel. Attempting to detain you or pull you over is interfering with your right to travel, so it is illegal… as is any requirements therein, like Driver’s Licenses, Insurance, Registration… any infringement on the absolute right to travel is illegal. NOW… I’m not exactly a Constitutional Scholar but our current Supreme Court removed the implied right of Privacy, especially as it relates to family planning. DO YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE… that if there was an implied absolute right to Travel… that nobody in the last 100 years challenged that to the Supreme Court? Do you honestly believe that the near universal requirement to have a Driver’s License to drive in the United States is not so pervasive a law that, were there an implied right in the Constitution, it would have gone unchallenged for this long? THERE IS NO RIGHT OF TRAVEL beyond that of “You are free to walk where permitted.” Thus there is no ABSOLUTE right of travel with zero limitations, cautions, requirements, or infringements. Well, as this lady isn’t learning her lesson or changing her approach, she was back in court. And then literally waiting to ambush me outside of the Courtroom to the point where the Clerk came in and asked me what to do. Well, considering the last time she was harassing Court Staff and demanding to speak to me was because she “doesn’t understand these charges! They can’t charge me with illegal charges like this! I demand to speak to the person who will dismiss this injustice!!” So, I said to the clerk essentially what I said the first time. “She can fuck off, I will not speak with her. If she truly doesn’t understand the charges, hire an attorney. She’s a sovereign citizen who doesn’t recognize the jurisdiction of this court and I will not deal with her outside of the courtroom setting!”
This SOVCIT then decided to file a lengthy motion describing how the state has illegally detained her, illegally charged her, and that she is protected under Double Jeopardy. SO… her reasoning is this:
She was driving illegally, but it isn’t illegal because the law doesn’t apply to her. She was arrested and cited for this. Two weeks later, she was again driving illegally, but it isn’t illegal because the law doesn’t apply to her. She was arrested and cited for this. She contends that the second arrest/citation is illegal under Double Jeopardy because you can’t be charged twice for the same crime. AGAIN.... this is a perfect example of: If you give it ZERO serious thought… it could almost make sense. The rule against double jeopardy, loosely defined, is “You cannot be charged with the same crime twice.” HOWEVER only a complete moron considers “the same illegal act on two different days” to be THE SAME CRIME. Under her reasoning… I could shoot a police officer on Monday, get arrested, get released, and shoot a police officer on Friday, and they can’t arrest me because of double jeopardy!! YOU FUCKING SIMPLETON, DIFFERENT DATES AND DIFFERENT FACTS make it a different charge!! Let’s get it as fucking simple as we can.
Monday: I am driving a Ford Taurus down University and I am pulled over because ON MONDAY my license is suspended and my car does not have valid plates. I am being charged with language of “On or about MONDAY, the named Defendant is charged with FOLOWING CRIMES.” Then....
Saturday: I am driving a Ford Taurus down University and I am pulled over because ON SATURDAY my license is suspended and my car does not have valid plates. I am being charged with language of “On or about SATURDAY, the named Defendant is charged with FOLLOWING CRIMES.” You see that part in the language that was extremely different? The date. That is legally significant. That makes the charges legally distinct.
HERE IS THE MORE IMPORTANT PART because these very much NOT attorneys don’t even understand what they don’t understand. DOUBLE JEOPARDY does not attach until a Defendant is put to trial. SO the fact that this person has not gone to trial on these charges yet? Double Jeopardy wouldn’t attach anyway! It’s like these people watch a half season of Ally McBeal and think that makes them attorneys!!!
I would voluntarily go to Hell, if I was given the role of torturing these SOVCITs, I swear to God!

Because dealing with them drives me up a fucking wall.... and because trying to schedule them throws everything else into a cluster fuck. The cases I otherwise WOULD HAVE subpoenaed and prepared? WHO KNOWS?! There are now cases on Wednesday that have been orally set for Wednesday, but no paperwork or judicial order to tag for subpoenas. And trials? Some trial dates are still accurate, some are terribly fucking wrong, and that won’t get sorted until Monday! SO… I’m going to be working over the weekend and a little extra on Monday anyway just because these Paper Terrorists (which is what Wyoming calls SOVCITS) fuck up everything they touch.

Look… I’m pissed that Trump gets to walk around saying he’s above the law. I am. The correct response to that? Is not to walk around saying that YOU are above the law. If you can’t figure out what the difference between you and him is? PLEASE allow your friends or family to commit you. PLEASE!!

Fuck- I forgot that it was PI DAY. TOTALLY FORGOT! I typically try to make a post or make special reference at exactly 3.14 at 1:59:26. SO… whichever 1:59:26 that I am awake for on March 14th.

AAaand apparently, the internet is going out all over the office in spurts this afternoon. So any work I would have otherwise gotten done or wanted to get done… falls to the demons of Technical Problems. (Internet was down from 2:45 through 3:45).

Well… as I review what lays before me… I see a few things that seem… fundamental and a few things that are very much “options, which way do I play it”.
I think I don’t have a choice… I have to have a productive weekend this weekend. Between the extra work (fucking SOVCITS) and potential Jury Trials, between Tax Appointments and County Democrat Meetings… I have to have a productive weekend. Optional things are things like:
Do I buy alcohol for this weekend?
Do I try to squeeze in going to/signing up for the gym?
Do I actively dedicate a significant chunk of time to trying to get my Audition Monologue memorized?
These are the voyages of the Starship.... sorry, been watching TNG lately. These are the options I am considering amongst a potentially busy and MUST BE PRODUCTIVE weekend.
