M got his award and was so excited when he saw his dad and I sitting in the crowd. I am happy he got some recognition, he’s a smarty like his sister but he also has a hard time sitting still for too long. No teacher has complained or said anything about it, I don’t think its more than a lot of 2nd grade boys out there, just a lot different from his sister.
This school is an International Baccalaureate school, on top of a rigorous academics they also focus on developing critical thinking. They don’t do awards for math, or reading they give awards for IB learner profiles like; thinker, balanced, risk takers. The thinker traits, “use their critical and creative thinking skills to analyze and take responsible actions when solving complex problems”. They also start them in Spanish classes in 1st grade and music by 3rd which is earlier than most around here anyway. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they ran though it all, it started at 9:45 and I was back in my car by like 10:20, even with a 3rd grade performance. I don’t love how large this school is, they have (3) 2nd grade classes but they only allow 20 kids per class and so far I like everything else.

P my freaking super smart procrastinator finally got her English paper turned in and her grade went from a D to a B, this was after I had to threaten life as she knows it. AKA take her phone and Ipad away. UGH.. I know some of its her age but she’s also too freaking smart and knows how to work the system. I am not blaming the teacher at all, but if the teacher gave her an absolute deadline I don’t think she would have taken so long. I try not to harp on grades as much as I do effort, the loss of phone was due to the lack of effort. We’ll have to see how she does with finals.

Well the man just called and said his son isn’t coming for Christmas anymore, the kids will be soo sad BUT his mom had a stroke last night. UGH, I don’t know exactly what’s been going on but her health has been an issue for years. I remember shortly after we moved back here the 1st time (about 16yrs ago) the man was on the phone with her for hours, crying, she was basically making sure if she died we’d take care of him. The man said son & mom were together so she got to the hospital quick, they don’t believe there was much damage but they are still running tests. I feel for all of them, especially the son for having to see his mom like that.
