those stars are just as far
away
as the things you’re not forgetting
and though the distance
is immense
the sight is unrelenting

it took that light ten million years
to reach your riverbed
almost seven million years ago
the star went nova
it’s long dead

weighted swimmers
they can’t swim for long
weighted swimmers
can’t go fast
pretty soon it’s either
adult swim
or sinking dead-down with your past

it’s not a call for do-overs
it’s calls for now this time with feeling
it’s a fuck you to those long dead suns
set the twilight reeling
