To beat traffic, I’ve been getting up at 5 AM. To occupy my time, I hit the gym in the rec center. There’s so much time that I don’t even need to watch the clock. The most relaxation you’ll ever have is when you’re not concerned with time.
At least, external time. Funny I say that, as I’m usually pacing myself during my workouts according to a clock. I always track my rest periods when I lift, I find myself holding some sort of running/walking rhythm when I use a treadmill, and I have to stare at the running timer on an elliptical when I do HIIT.
It’s just more relaxing to do my thing without thinking, “Crap, I gotta pick up the pace or I ‘won’t have enough time.’“
I made, what ended up being, broccoli stew-mush last night. Broccoli, black beans, lentils, rice, with a shallot, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, marsala wine, a dash or two of adobo seasoning, and one habenero pepper for flavor. Phew, that was hot. If it weren’t for the chicken stock I used, it would have been straight-up vegan. For something I completely improvised, it came out pretty good. Elissa and I joked that it was going to make for some impressive poop, what with the mega-high fiber content.
I gotta figure out a way around my salt cravings. I actually wasn’t all that hungry for the rest of the night. All things considered, a little bit of chips and hummus is not that bad. I’m just not sure whether it’s from the reduction of salt in my diet, a bad habit, or whether I actually need more electrolytes. If anything, a planned small snack around 9 PM might be my best bet. I don’t know quite why I’m always hungry at night, but I figure it’s balancing how I’m never hungry in the morning. (Hey, I do eat in the morning anyway, just enough so I psychologically know I’ve had nutrition.)
Hrm. Mini-nap time.
