And we're back! Prosebox just got a major upgrade. in Site Updates (Buffy)

Hey everyone,
We’re thrilled to share that we’ve upgraded almost everything behind the scenes to make Prosebox better and more reliable than ever. Our new servers are designed to keep things running smoothly with minimal downtime, and we’ve implemented continuous database backups to ensure your diaries are always safe. If something goes wrong, the site can even reboot itself automatically!
While most things will look and feel the same, we’ve added a few new features and fixed some annoying bugs:
New features
- Unblocking: We’ve added a Blocked page to the “My Prosebox” dropdown so you can see who you’ve blocked. This now includes an “unblock” button. To prevent abuse, you will need to wait seven days after blocking before you can unblock someone.
- Better Inclusivity: We’ve added more gender and pronoun options to make sure everyone feels represented.
- “On This Day” Toggle: Sometimes we don’t need to be reminded of the past. You can now choose to turn this feature on or off in your settings.
- 15+ new backgrounds have been added.
- FAQ/Help section: We’ve finally brought back the Frequently Asked Questions section. It’s been brought up to date, and more will be added as time goes on.
- Report: All entries now have a “report” button that will send a notification to the Prosebox admins. This notification includes who is reporting the entry. Eventually we will add a “why are you reporting this?” dropdown.
- Diary Export: Exporting now includes an option to export comments with entries.
Notable bug fixes
- Spam restrictions have been removed from all private and friends entry types, and have been loosened overall for real users.
- Dates have been fixed in diary export.
- Comments are now paginated after 20, which will really help with load times.
Up next
- We’ll be monitoring performance and adjusting things as needed.
- We’re not stopping here! Up next, we’ll be working on better editing tools—a top request from many of you. Don’t worry, though; you’ll be able to keep the current editor as your default if you prefer.

You can think of it like we spent six months rebuilding the engine, and it took us a day to swap the old one out and the new one in. Really happy with how well it went, hats off to Buffy for all of his hard work

I noticed that it ran slow on my phone as I typed out an entry. Not sure if that was while the update took place, but it was a within the last 40 minutes.

I don't have a PC but I do have the best wifi available here. The slow down occurs when loading up the site. This is through my phone. It hangs up and about 10 seconds later the progress bat fills up and the site is up. When typing out an entry there will be a delay. You'll randomly look up and see that whatever you typed didn't type out and the site is not responding. A few seconds later 3/5 it loads everything up that was typed. The loading issue happens now, the typing was during the time I saw this post go up. So I'm unsure if it was that but right now as I type this out, there is no lag input between what I am writing like there was when I was typing out an entry. I'll let you know as I type out my next entry here in a bit.

I left them screen shots on their Facebook page. Like you I did the same. I can't think of anyone that uses a physical computer now days. Everyone is either on a tablet or a phone of some sort.

The website appears to be very slow now. I constantly am getting the notification asking me if I want to exit the website or wait for it. This happened while writing a short entry that should have taken 5 minutes, it took me over 20 because of the site freezing. As I typed the cursor would just disappear and the message would come up asking if i wanted to wait or not, then the cursor would come back. I can type my entries out elsewhere and paste them, however, it seems like a bit of a bandaid.
Love all the work you've done and the updates so far. I'm sure this is just a bump. Thank you so much for everything.

The exported file of books doesn't download, it just opens a new tab that offers no option to download.

I'll keep looking into this - for now, you should be able to right-click and "save link as" from the email or save the file from the new tab (either by going to File->Save Page As, or Ctrl+S)

I keep getting the page unresponsive too. I just wrote an entry and then my letters stopped showing up, I'd get the error message and click "wait", wait about 15-20 seconds, then I would be able to continue. Happened 5-6x in an entry.

I got an error message trying to leave one of my favorites a note. I tried to submit it again and it worked. That diarist is also not showing up on my “latest” bookmarks even though it was a new entry. Only shows up when I click “all”.

I'm noticing that recent entries (written after the downtime) aren't showing up in the Latest Entries in the Bookmarks menu. They show up correctly as Unread, but after I've read them they disappear from Latest Entries.

The site is still acting quite slow at times. When typing there seems to be a long delay at times, and when editing a line it's a long delay as well. I wonder if the site isn't constantly trying to save the entry and it's not quick enough to do this without latency?

Quick update: Pushed out some more updates to the create and edit entry screens to hopefully help with some of the issues being reported.
Some of the other issues seem to be more sporadic so they're taking more time to troubleshoot and find the root cause.

Pushed out a few updates just now.
Looks like the speed/error ridiculousness is finally resolved. I've been pulling my hair for 72 hours and finally got somewhere. I'm trying out a few different settings to see what works best, but the site should no longer keep breaking.
I also upped comments to not start paging until 100 comments as a temporary fix. It's slowed down the loading time for entries but hopefully the tradeoff is worth it. I also removed something called "smooth scroll" which was acting up.
